Weddings + Good Friends = Fun
Posted by Isabel on September 12th, 2005. Filed under: Churchy Stuff, They're just my friends.Last Thursday night was a wedding for a friend of ours. We met him a few years ago because he moved into our neighborhood and started going to our Church. The first day we met him didn’t start out too good. We were asked to pick him up and bring him out to Church. We are mean and don’t like to take people with us to Church (slows us down, I guess). But we agreed to do it. We showed up at his complex, and there he was standing out on the sidewalk in his suit holding his Church books. With a very sincere smile on his face.
Let’s call him Smiling Man. SM needed friends and someone to sit with him on the pew. The King and I became those people. Long story short, SM progressed in his life very well. He got a great job, moved out of our neighborhood into his new condo in the ‘burbs. Then he met a lady-friend and they decided to get married. He was so excited in the e-mail he sent to me a few months ago telling me about his upcoming wedding. He is a little older-probably the age of my parents. So, this is his second marriage. SM deserves to be happy. And I am glad he is.
The wedding was just beautiful. It was the first beach wedding I have ever attended. The beach volleyball players took a break from their games while SM and his Bride were married. The officiator spoke of what marriage means, and offered some great advice for them. The Bride wore a lovely wedding dress and looked stunning.
There was dancing, dessert and live music afterwards. We were there with our friends that live down the street from us and their baby. We sat around and laughed and had a good time before cutting out to get some dinner at a local joint.
Their baby behaved quite well at dinner. Even The King mentioned that later. It was nice to hang out with them. We haven’t been able to do that much this summer. Mostly because they have a kid now (and are too poor to go out) and because of all the work we have been doing on the house. This was a nice break for all of us.
On the way home from dinner our friends were speeding up to pass us. The King turned to me and said “pretend like you’re asleep”. This is his famous trick he likes to play on people. We both pretended to close our eyes, which probably wasn’t too safe since we were crossing a bridge. But it made our friends laugh. And it made me laugh so hard. The King is fun to hang out with, and I’m glad he likes to hang out with me.
I’m gonna miss our friends when we move. Even if we’re only moving about 5 minutes away from our current house.
