Does everyone go through this?March 17th, 2006 @ 3:04 pm
The latest e-mail from The King sort of freaked me out. It’s the first of it’s kind. But I’m sure not the last.
The King: I gotta go back in the back of the office and work, so you can’t get a hold of me on my desk phone. I’ll have my cell phone on in case the baby comes. I’ll call you later when you are at home and tell you what time I’ll be home.
I think we’re both getting a little nervous about being apart from each other. Even if just for a few hours.

Oh Scary!
So, are you making progress towards labor? You know, we’re dying to hear the details!

I’m going to be the idiot who didn’t pay attention many months ago, and ask; when exactly are you due?

You’re getting close! How exciting!
As our due date approached, the Mr. would get agitated if I didn’t answer my cell phone right away whenever he’d call. Dads-to-be are pretty comical (in the sweetest possible way).

Yes, we are the SAME way! Since my hubby is in the military, he’ll be gone on cases for a few hours at a time… a few hours away! It makes me nervous that I’m going to be all alone and go into labor or something. I try not to think about it.
You asked about contractions… mine feel like my entire uterus muscle is tensing up, like right before you start to get a charlie horse (do you ever get leg cramps at night now that you’re pregnant? Kind of like that). My entire stomach is SO tight for about 30 seconds. It kind of puts a lot of pressure on my pelvic area too, which is uncomfortable. That’s the best I can describe it

Hello Isabel - found you via Katrina’s comments. Congratulations on the upcoming baby. My office is full of mommy-to-be’s and its such a joy watching them get closer to due date and listening to their thoughts (and complaints) I think its fun.. perhaps because I am not the one who is pregnant. Best to you and the king! Meg

How exciting! I remember so vividly waiting the last few weeks for labor to begin. I felt like a ticking time bomb, and I was sure I’d have one of those dramatic water-breaking experiences where you’re out shopping at the grocery store and the baby comes so fast that the bag boy has to deliver it.
I won’t go into detail about my birth experience (I’m sure you’re getting plenty of those!), but I’ll tell you it was more of a marathon than a sprint, to say the least!
Can’t wait to read more as you have the whole new mommy experience! I love your writing.

That is soooo cool that your baby is almost here! My best friend’s husband is a firefighter, so he’s gone three days in a row. She’s due in about a month, so her mom and mother-in-law are gonig to take turns spending the night with her.

Yes, I think that is a fairly common experience. Best wishes to you both, how exciting!

OMG yes. J had to go to a funeral yesterday and spent all day Saturday programming his phone so that he didn’t have to turn it off but none of the call/text/voicemail alerts would be audible. I haven’t really started thinking that way…I guess that’s what happens when your job is an hour from home/hospital!!

I remember my husband calling & texting me multiple times a day asking if the baby was coming yet & saying that he couldn’t stand waiting for the call. Logan ended up being born on one of the busiest days of work for him. It worked out perfectly though. Plenty of time for him to come home from work to pick me up & plenty of time to get comfortable in the hospital.

That’s not scary, that’s exciting! (Don’t ask me again, when I am the one who is days away from my due date. Ha ha)
