What is an appropriate “first time hanging out” activity anyway?July 10th, 2006 @ 11:16 am
Isabel: We should invite that new couple from Church over tonight to swim in our pool.
The King: That really isn’t a “first time hanging out” sort of activity.
Isabel: Why not?
The King: They might not be comfortable hanging out with strangers in their bathing suits. Plus, I think they’re really young. They might not want to be friends with us old folks.
Isabel: But come on, we need to do fun things with friends. And they are young. Which means you’ll get to see the 19 year old wife in her bathing suit. That’s got to entice you.
The King: Not really. I’ve got this thing called the Interweb where I can see all sorts of 19 year old girls in less than their bathing suits. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
So this is the world we live in? Where the thought of a 19 year old in her bathing suit can’t even convince my husband to be social?
We’re getting too old to make new friends.

Do you even know me at all?July 7th, 2006 @ 11:59 am
Rememeber way back before anyone knew I was even pregnant?? I know it was so long ago, but try.
And remember when that coworker asked me how my kids were? And remember that he fought me on it when I swore up and down that I didn’t have any kids!
He came with a bunch of us to lunch today.
Coworker: Hey, Isabel. How’s your baby.
Isabel: He’s dreamy. I love him.
Coworker: How old is he now? 10, 11 months?
Isabel: (Shocked and horrified) Are you serious? Because he’s only 11 weeks old!! Man you sure are bad at remembering anything about me! Don’t you remember that I was just pregnant?
Do I even need to remind you that I’ve been with this company for six years, so this coworker has known me long enough to keep this straight. Plus he sees me everyday. Everyday, people!

My love IS blonde, or Janet is my new heroJuly 7th, 2006 @ 10:13 am
I give up.
The purpose of today’s post was to tell you how much I love Janet. She helped me so much with the new layout.
But posting isn’t really working today. I swear that when I try to upload pictures, all hell breaks loose.
So, all praise to Janet and her mad skillz. And all hail to Flickr and new pictues of Babboo.
(Tell me, do you like the new look of the site?? Because I DO!)

Exactly what I was thinkingJuly 6th, 2006 @ 7:01 am
I’m still trying to talk The King into watching Lord of the Rings with me. He is doing all he can to not have to watch it.
This week he even started to lie about it. Wednesday morning he told me that he watched the first one the night before, after I had gone to bed.
The King: So, I watched Lord of the Rings last night. It was so good.
Isabel: Really? What was it about?
The King: Frodobagginses. (he says this as one word)
Isabel: What does Frodo do?
The King: He goes on a journey to get rid of the ring.
Isabel: Did he get rid of it?
The King: Yep. The movie was good.
Isabel: He got rid of it in the first movie? All by himself?
The King: Yep. Frodobagginses is funny.
Isabel: You know he doesn’t get rid of the ring until the last movie, right? And that he has to get rid of it in the Fires of Mordor.
The King: Oh yeah, I meant he almost got rid of it.
This morning he told me he watched the second one last night.
The King: I liked the second movie even better. That crazy Frodobagginses.
Isabel: Who are the Two Towers they talk about in the second movie?
The King: You know. So I’m not going to tell you.
Isabel: It’s the wizards’s Saruman and Sauron two sides. But it always bugged me how close those two names were to each other. It confused me a little.
The King: That is exactly what I was thinking when I was watching it.
Isabel: You know that we don’t even have the second movie here at our apartment?
The King: Um. It was on TV.
(rolls eyes…)
I guess this means I can just give up all hope for him ever actually watching these movies with me.
Good thing he’s so cute.

Let me show you the worldJuly 5th, 2006 @ 7:01 am
We didn’t make it to Vancouver. My super secret website that helps me get a four star hotel for $65.00 failed me. Or I failed by waiting to long to try to book one. Either way, we didn’t go.
Instead we stayed home and pretended to be on vacation. That means The King didn’t work at the house, we ate out (even breakfast, hooray), and we spent money.
Ever since Babboo was born I’ve had this overwhelming desire to take him places and show him things. I’m dying to take him to the Zoo and the museum, and I can’t wait to get him on a plane.
But then I remember that he’s only 11 weeks old and could care less about the Zoo. But I still want to take him.
Monday we decided to take our little family on a road trip. Which I usually hate doing. I think it’s because I remember road trips as a kid and being locked in the car while one of my brother (or, let’s be honest, my sister) farted. Or trying to sleep while my sister shoved her pillow in my face.
Oh, memories.
Anyway, The King and I decided to take Babboo to see Mt. Rainer. You know, because an 11 week old gives a crap about this gorgeous mountain. Still, we packed up the Baby Bjorn, multiple diapers, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and a hat. Oh, we also packed up Babboo.
He slept the entire time. To be fair, he woke up for a bit when we arrived at the first lookout. But he wasn’t impressed. We even showed him snow for the first time. He didn’t even flinch when I touched his hand with it.
The road trip was great. The King and I laughed and talked and just had a good time. If anyone did fart, it was Babboo and he was quickly forgiven because he is so dang cute.
The Fourth was spent at a neighborhood kid’s parade over at the in-laws. Again, Babboo slept through his first parade. And then he pooped all over his Fourth of July outfit.
And I mean all over.
I guess I need to just lay off trying to show him the world right now. There’s plenty of time for that later.

It’s the little thingsJuly 1st, 2006 @ 7:15 am
After Babboo’s 6am feeding I decided to just stay awake and put Babboo in bed with The King. I figured they needed a little one on one time (that is, until The King has to get up to go and work at the new house.)
The King just walked into the front room and handed Babboo off to me. Then he went in the kitchen to get some breakfast.
This is all very exciting, I know. But wait for it.
The King: Why don’t you get online and try to get us a hotel for Vancouver, Canada for Sunday and Monday.
Isabel: Yeah, I can do that today.
The King: Babboo was awake this whole time. And he kept me awake to.
Isabel: Sorry, I thought he was asleep.
The King: He rolled over twice.
Isabel: WHAT?! He rolled over? That is big news!! He’s never rolled over before. And two times? That proves it wasn’t an accident. This needs to be documented in his baby book. Phone calls to Grandparents need to be made! Oh, and I missed seeing it?! Dang it!
The King: Well, I’m off to work at the house. See you later today.
Big news at the King household today. Our little boy is becoming a man.
