The one where I make you look at pictures of other people’s kids – but only because they are awesome
Posted by Isabel on December 20th, 2006. Filed under: They're just my friends. You know how you get those wacky urban legend e-mails about some babysitter in Maryland taking too many aspirins and winding up in some bathtub in Mexico without her kidney? Or something like that. This week I got two awesome e-mails that are 100% true.
The first one came from my friend Ann and was about her 4 year old nephew. Apparently he was out with his family and wanted to play one of those vending machines where you have to use the claw to get the prize, but you never can, so you end up spending like $15.00 bucks on nothing. His Mom wouldn’t give him any money to play, so he decided to just crawl inside the machine to get a toy out himself. Did you hear me? He got inside the machine. Through that little opening at the bottom.
You see where this is going, right?

He got stuck. And the pizza joint they were at didn’t have a key to get him out. So the owner of the machine had to be contacted to come and let the kid out. Good think the kid wasn’t freaking out. In fact, he was having a blast. Eventually he even fell asleep. When they finally got him out, the owner offered him a toy from the machine. His Mom wouldn’t let him accept it. She didn’t want him rewarded for his bad behavior. I was pretty impressed that she stuck to her guns.
The next e-mail arrived this morning from my friend May. One of her friends from Church sent her a picture of her daughter with Santa for May to see. I was all, “Why is May sending this to me? I could care less about some kid I don’t even know!”
That’s when I actually looked at the picture.

That’s right people; she’s giving you the bird. That’s what she thinks about you and your stupid Holiday Season.

My friends in Massachusetts made me take a closer look at their daughter’s first picture with Santa. I was just a few months old, and I remember getting the photo with their annual holiday card. Kris and I oohed and ahhed that it was the Real Santa!
Upon closer inspection, nearly 4 years later, did I notice that good ole Kris Kringle is flipping the bird.
We debated whether the bird flipping was intentional or coincidental.
My feeling is that if I had to sit there all day in a hot, stinky suit with screaming kids on my lap, I’d probably get a kick out of doing something as subtle as dropping the occasional finger, too.
I know. I’m getting coal.

Ha ha! I saw the first story on the local news and Longball (the boyfriend) and I laughed and laughed and laughed.
The second picture is priceless.
Is Babboo having Santa pictures taken?

I inadvertantly gave the Shocker sign in a photo recently- I didn’t even realize I was doing it! So wrong

I have heard of kids getting stuck up in those machines before. Too funny! I love the santa one. Abbie flippe dthe world off the first few months of her life. Including her grandfather 30 after coming into the world.

Kids say (and do) the darndest things. Those are SO FUNNY! Can’t wait to see what Baboo gets into when he gets a little older!

My mouth is hanging open at Lizzy’s comment… yes I bet he did it on purpose, but boy that makes me mad. You know that probably 600 kids have him flipping them off (sneakily) in their photos that they want to treasure for years.
Geesh.
But that bottom photo you posted is funny… I wonder if she was doing it on purpose. LOL. Like, saw someone on tv do it or something. When one of my kids was little he thought it meant you were saying “HI” to someone. LOL.
(I think about 15 kids have crawled into those vending machines in the last couple years… I keep waiting for them to redesign them so it can’t happen anymore… not that I care – I think it’s funny! But I find it hard to believe no one has freaked out yet and MADE them change the design.)

I will admit I haven’t paid a lot of attention to those claw machines. But good grief, are the openings really that big? Big enough for a kid to get in them that quickly? It seems like it would take forever to wiggle in! I would be SO PISSED if Evan did that. Good for her not letting him take the toy. It had to be hard not to laugh at him though!!

I am in shock. First, about that kid cralwing INTO the machine. Second, that it’s not a shock to other people b/c they’ve heard of it happening before. That’s crazy. I didn’t know it was possible for kids to crawl up in there. What are they? Mice?

My brother does that in every family picture. My mom never notices until someone points it out to her, and then she gets all upset. This kid is starting early… she’s going to be awesome when she grows up! Maybe she will even take over the role of International Grinch Lady from me when I finally lose my marbles and start wearing a different christmas sweater every day of December.

Wow, I’m gonna be very watchful of Zachary around those machines now, haha. I didn’t think that it was possible for a kid to actually get in there, but obviously I was wrong!
I hope that Babboo is gonna have a picture with Santa!!! I’d love to see it! He’s just too adorable!

The funny thing is that I scanned the photo and stared at it for a while, trying to figure out what was strange about it. Until I finally read what you wrote underneath it. I can’t believe I missed that! Hilarious!

Teehee. I’m loving the flipped off Santa photo.. and they’re both so smiley! Just imagine captioning this picture.. classic. That could be a nice competition for you and the King sometime..
Wow. That is one determined kid, climbing into the machine. As much as I loved the toy and chocolate ones, I wouldn’t make it halfway.. not that I tried, or anything.

I love the vending machine story–though how a kid that size could actually fit through the slot is beyond me.

Oh my goodness… I looked at that Santa picture without reading…thought it was you when you were a kid…wondered why the bar over the eyes…then I saw the finger. That is too funny!!
