The dude had his pants down. Really.

Posted by Isabel on January 10th, 2007. Filed under: Apartment Living, Random, The King.

Instead of talking about the guy in line behind me last night at the local Rite Aid with his pants down, let’s talk about the fact that they had baby food on sale for .19 cents.

.19 cents is pretty much free in my book.

(I didn’t actually see the guy’s pants down. I was making eye contact with him when he yelled at me. The manager told me later that he had his pants down. Classy. And also a little scary.)

Maybe my something new for this week should be almost getting accosted at Rite Aid. It was new. Although it wasn’t fun.

Instead of typing the whole story out and reliving it for the internet, let’s talk about the Christmas present I gave to The King this year:

It started out being billed as “The Best Christmas Present Ever”. It quickly became “The Best Christmas Present That I’ve Ever Given”, which eventually became “The Most Thoughtful Christmas Present I’ve Ever Given”.

If you can’t tell what it is (and really, how could you with this crappy picture I took), it’s an official map of the Berlin, Germany subway system matted in a lovely frame by yours truly.

(U-Bahn, how I miss you and your lovely Heidelberger Platz station.)

The King has oft mentioned that he would someday love to have a full size map of the Berlin subway system in our home. The maps are huge people. And I don’t think you can buy them. We’d probably have to steal one from the walls in the subway. So instead, I took one of our old (small) maps from a previous trip and framed it up all pretty. It’s actually pretty big. After I took this picture The King hung it on the wall in our apartment and really, it looks so nice. The next step is to hang some pictures from all of our trips to Germany next to the map. Um, I think we have some. But they must be in storage (with the rest of our stuff)!

While this post is totally random and really doesn’t have a plot, I was able to not talk more about the man at the Rite Aid. And that, my friends, is a good thing.

Don’t forget its National Delurking Week. You guys have been great so far. But really…I know there’s more of you out there. The stats, they don’t lie.

That’s crazy! We also won’t talk about the man with his pants down at the coffee shop where I used to work that I totally didn’t notice, even though he was like that for a good hour. Why are some men so skeevy?

Anyway, that’s an awesome present. I love framed maps. Glad the King liked it too!

  2. Cindy

    I’m NOT lurking!! I swear!

I am sorry a scary man with his pants around his ankles yelled at you! Thank goodness you didn’t see anything or it could made it scarrier! Goota live the 19 cents! Abbie is now off Baby Food and eating table food and it is the best!!! So much easier and I thin cheeper.

The map is really cool. I have always wnated to put a us map up in our house. someday… yours has so much more meaning!

Hi! I read you on my Google Reader and rarely comment, but just wanted to say I’m here!

  7. CathyHW

Hi! I read you everyday, but never comment. Happy de-lurking day!

  8. Frema

I guess your story brings new meaning to the whole “caught with your pants down” idea.

Ouch. But I’m sick. Forgive me.

Pants down? In Rite Aid? What is this world coming to?

You gotta love a crazy person at the Rite-Aid. The last time I was in a Rite-Aid (which was in OH, they just don’t exist around here…it’s Walgreen’s country) I had this really drunk guy with broken blood vessels in his eye try and hit on me. I just got what I needed and got the heck out.

Great gift for the King! I love a personalized, thoughtful gift. We just don’t seem to give or get those much anymore in our hurried busy world. Way to go!

de lurking here. Not sure how I found you, though I think it was months ago via Mama-Cta (not even sure if you read her or someone who commented on her did). Anyway, I used to live in Seattle (about 10 years ago) so I love reading about it. Now, I live in MD w/my husband & 2 girls. You are a great writer. Thanks for letting me stop by.

I’m only kinda, sorta a lurker. On a different note, I think maps are beautiful and it sounds like it was a great gift idea! Now if only you hadn’t set the bar so high for next year :)

    ah! busted.

i don’t mean to lurk, i truly don’t have time to comment. (school full-time, kids, etc.)

i just enjoy reading about your little family in seattle. i appreciate your candidness and humor in your posts.

    Thanks!

I thought you couldn’t see me from the other side of the world….

    Consider me delurked!

Love visiting, here and there, to see what you’re up to.

Dude, if it’s the Rite Aid I think it might be, I’m always surprised when people actually WEAR their clothes there. I used to catch a bus right outside and saw lots of things I would have rather not seen.

I love the King’s gift. I really like decorating my house with reminders of travel. You have inspired me to get one for London.

    Is it going to snow?

  16. Lindsey

What a thoughtful gift! That is so lovely.

But let’s face it, I’m really curious about the man sans pantalones.

  17. ashley

    mmm. pretty present.

  18. Amanda

I have really caught this delurking bug lol

I’ve lurked on and off for a while (the off times mostly cos I had no internet *shucks*) I love this post about Berlin and the U-Bahn I used to commute into Berlin every Thursday a couple of years back when I was working there and I loved it!!! Thanks for the memories!

  19. Sara

I am “de-lurking” myself! I stop by every now and then and just started my own blog! Would love to have you “lurk” over my way! =)

Thoughtful gifts are always, always, always the best gifts. You did good and I’m sure The Kind absolutely loves it!

You really have me wondering about what happened last night at Rite Aid. Why in the hell was a strange man with his pants down yelling at you? And is he properly in jail today. I would have been so scared. I’m scared for you. But I understand you don’t want to talk about it. Just know, I’m concerned (and nosey). But that’s all. I don’t need to know the story because again, clearly, you don’t want to talk about it.

I used to comment. Then I got google reader and an active toddler and became a lurker. So does it still count? :-)

  22. Christar

That is a very thoughtful gift! I think the thoughtful ones are the most special. I always try and give thoughtful gifts. :)
