Film, it is expensive (and bunny cakes are cute)February 6th, 2007 @ 7:01 am
We all heard that The King got a new job. A job where the people are beautiful, wear hip clothes and buy him lunch everyday. And his new Macbook is made out of gold.
It’s a sweet gig.
Did I also mention that in the summer they only work half days on Fridays?
Yeah, it’s a sweet gig.
At his new place of employment they have a wall compiled of baby pictures of everyone that works there. No names or anything, just baby pictures. They requested that The King bring in one of his baby pictures for them to scan. I just happened to have a scanned baby picture of him, so I sent it over.

It was not what they were looking for. Plus, they wanted to scan it themselves. Which meant we would have to make a trip to The King’s parents house and look through his baby pictures.
His Mom had them separated into little folders. They just happened to be separated by his birthday party for the year. That’s when I realized that there were really only pictures from his parties.
It’s sort of like the pictures I have of me. Like this one taken on my fourth birthday:

Or this one from my third birthday, where I was given a very sharp knife and told to cut your own cake*, damn it.:

Or from my sixth birthday where I wore tights and clogs. I was very fashion forward:

Apparently the only “picture worthy” things I ever did as a child was have a birthday. Exciting, I know.
While looking through all of The King’s pictures I had to laugh at the lack of pictures taken of us children of the 70’s. I guess film must have been pretty expensive back then. Or maybe film developing was. I mean, you had to be pretty particular about what you were going to use your precious film on. Birthdays and Christmas were the only things to make the cut.
Unlike The King and me, Babboo and other children of the digital generation are going to have so many pictures of themselves. When Babboo grows up and gets a job where they want one of his baby pictures, it will take him more than 10 minutes to go through every picture ever taken of him. And then he’ll have more than two to choose from.
* Yes, the bunny cake made a reappearance back in 2004. My Mom found her original copy of the recipe and e-mailed it to me so I could make this:
The “recipe”? Yeah, it wasn’t too hard to figure out and I could have probably done it without. I mean, come on:

holy hair, Babboo! He’s looking so toddlerish in the face!
What does the King do at this sweet gig? I’m intrigued and want free lunches.

Yes, children of the digital age will have a plethora of photos at their disposal. However, instead of hard copies, they’ll be bombarded with CDs! One of the projects on my to-do list at home is to print out the best pictures of the last three years. For some reason we started slacking off with our prints since then!

I have been sucked into the depths of the digital. I have very few hard copies and I need to get back to scrapbooking, or hell, even just photo albums for my babies!

OMG! I used to get the bunny cakes too! Love those!
There are like, four photos of me between the ages of birth and 16. I was one of four children and film and it’s related development was just far, far out the reach of our broke butts.
So yeah. I have approximately 7000 pictures of my kids from 2006.

I’m stealing your bunny cake recipe/diagram and making it for my husband. He’ll be 27, but who cares? Bunny cakes ARE cute.

Not to totally bypass your pictures or The King’s picture BUT…
Babboo is SO steakin’ cute!!! Oh my gosh. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him.
And did you get his shirt at Target. Because I saw one like it there and thought it would be a perfect shirt for Babboo.

No lie on the pictures! I think about that all the time - how I have to dig for pictures of my first day of school, or my 5th birthday. Jackson can pull a picture from his 367th day of life and know exactly what he wore and where we were in the laundry rotation.
Great picture of Babboo. He is sweet as ever.
Also, you and I had the same four year old haircut. :0)

My family is a fan of the bunny cake as well. We have one every year for Easter except my grandma puts coconut all over to be the bunny’s “fur.” Well, all over except for one ear because my cousins don’t like coconut so basically we have a rabbit that has alopecia that only affects one ear.

Oh you have NO idea how many pictures of Zachary Shaun has. He has so many, that it gets pretty boring to look at them, haha. Don’t get me wrong, having a good deal of pictures is awesome, but MAN! He has way way way too many. Last year alone, he had 479 pictures of just Zachary. Poor kid will be blind before he goes to school because of all the flashing of the camera, haha.

I have been scanning in old pictures I took from my mom’s house this Christmas. I think there is one of me in the same dress you have on for your 3rd birthday.
You already know how cute Babboo is so don’t really need me to tell you. That shirt is fantastic though.

I totally make that bunny cake every year at Easter. My mom always made it for us and I loved it as a kid. I use M&Ms for the bowtie b/c hello, chocolate is way better than gum drops!

Babboo is tooo cute!
The first picture of my husband is when he is 5 years old… how sad is that? and it was taken by the government, not his family.

I had forgotten about the expense/hassle of developing film! You’re right, this is going to be totally different for our kids!

Love Babboo’s hair and love the bunny cake!
You are truly a bunny cake arteest (which is so much cooler than being simply a bunny cake artist)!

As a child of the 80s, there are quite a few pics of me as a baby, but I wouldn’t say lots. Apparently film-developing costs went down.
Baby E can spend 3-4 hours someday looking through all the photos of her baby self.
And I love that the bunny cake diagram includes measurements. Like you’re going to bust out the ruler to make sure the bowtie measures 4 inches on each side.
