It’s crunch time
Posted by Isabel on May 8th, 2007. Filed under: Addictions.I’m a creature of habit. I mean that in a good way. A very good way. I like my routines. They comfort me and make me feel like I’m in control. Feeling in control is a good thing. Especially when you have a one year old who is really the person in control. But that’s a topic for another day.
Every night before I put Babboo to bed, I pick out my outfit for the next day. I lay it on the chair with my underwear, hose and shoes. If something needs to be ironed, I do that too. Then I wash my make-up off, but my jammies on and put Babboo to bed. After that, the night is all mine and it’s glorious.
Because of my nightly routines, my mornings are pretty easy. I wake up, shower, and get ready for the day. No worrying about picking out what to wear. I just put on what’s on the chair and head to work.
This is where my day gets good. As soon as I get to the office, I start up the old laptop and head to the office kitchen to make me a bowl of instant oatmeal and get a hot cup of tasty cocoa. I love my instant oatmeal. It’s like my reward for having to be at work that early in the morning. It’s a little present to me for being so awesome.
I usually just bring a box of Quaker Oatmeal in and keep it in my top desk drawer. My coworkers are totally enablers and even bring in oatmeal packets they get at hotels when they are on the road. I heart it. Last month I decided to shake things up a little in this fabulous morning routine.
I bought a new kind of oatmeal.
Holy crap people, have you tried this stuff? It’s seriously like a bowl of hot sex with candy on top. So good. It’s even better if you get a little bit of brown sugar on top.
(I swear the Quaker Oatmeal man with the funky hat and puffy shirt is not paying me to say how yummy their stuff is. But they should.) (Only if that payment comes in the form of free boxes of said oatmeal.) (Especially the Apples & Cinnamon flavor.) (It’s my fave.) (FYI)
So basically I’m telling you two things today.
- I’m a nerd and have to have certain things a certain way. Maybe I have a little OCD. You gotta a problem with that?
- I like food. Especially the type of food that can be prepared by simply adding a 1/3 of boiling water to it and letting it sit. And maybe some granola and brown sugar.
It really is just the little things that make life so tasty. So tell me, what little thing do you do to treat yourself?

I’m gonna need a little more convincing. Oatmeal is too mushy for me. Does the “crunch” imply that this is not mushy? How is it different from regular oatmeal?

I’m totally gonna have to try that! It looks super yummy! And I’m the same way… I love my routines, and I like things to be a certain way. That’s just the way I am.
Ohhhh, my little thing that I treat myself to is Flamin’ Hot Cheetos! I’m addicted. I would be obese if I didn’t moderate my intake of them, because if I let myself, I could just keep eating, and eating, and eating. I love them so much! Yum!

I sooo used to do that! (the oatmeal thing, I mean). I always had oatmeal in my cabinet in my office when I was working. I like the fruit and cream varieties. And we bought some of the Oatmeal Crunch to try when it was on sale for a dollar. It is good! But they didn’t have the apples & cinnamon kind. I guess I need to watch for it to go on sale again so I can try it cuz seriously, you can’t read an Hola, Isabel testimonial and not run out and do what Isabel says.

I heart instant oatmeal too!! My fave flavor you ask? Maple and brown sugar! I could eat it everyday, but I always forget to buy it when I got to the store because I’m too busy trying to remember everyone else’s food!

I used to be addicted to the instant oatmeal thing too… but then I feel out of the habit about a year ago. I still have a big (Sam’s Club size, baby! You want to talk about OCD?) under my desk, but i can’t remember the last time I actually ate anyway. I don’t know what happened. I just broke up with the Quaker guy.
If you take those little crunch packets and mix that in with some blueberry yogurt… now THAT’S hot sex for breakfast.

I meant “ate any”. The way I typed it sounds like I can’t remember the last time I ate anything… which is clearly untrue.

I also love me some maple & brown sugar instant oatmeal. But I am not the creature of habit you are. I usually go to the store and decide for the next week or two what our breakfasts will be. Could be a bagel with cream cheese, could be a cereal bar and a yogurt. Or just a bowl of cereal.
Now what do I do to treat myself? This is not a question for me because I am a glutton and I deserve no special treats. That doesn’t stop me from eating enough special treats to cover 6 people.
I did discover that Klondike makes an Oreo cookie ice cream sandwich. Let’s just say I’m screwed. For life.

I have oatmeal too, but I like the Honey Nut.

It’s scary how much our routines are alike…except for the whole being organized the night before – not me at all. But I come into work and have a bowl of oatmeal and love it! And I just recently tried the Crunch version and LOVE it!

VitaMuffin Vita Tops. And Fiber One Oats & PB bars. I totally looked through my trash to find the exact names for you. That’s blogging buddy love.
Dove sugar free chocolate pieces are good too.

Not an oatmeal fan, never have liked it. But my favorite snack is a slice of bread with strawberry jam and cheddar cheese… sounds crazy – tastes like heaven! I think it may be a family thing, after dinner my sibs and I break out the jam and cheese and the in-laws start rolling their eyes.

I like the maple brown sugar oatmeal but I have never been that organized person who keeps it in the drawer at work. I should, but I don’t. I am always in such a hurry in the mornings that breakfast is usually an apple or a pear in the car with a bottled water. Which is good for me, but not nearly as satisfying as hot sex in a bowl with candy on top.
When I have time I slice some sharp cheddar to go with my apple or pear…fruit and cheese, mmmm. And when I feel really naughty I will get a Starbucks chai tea latte and a croissant.

I am not a fan of instant oatmeal, but I love love LOVE those Quaker Oatmeal To-Go bars. The banana bread is my favorite. Have you tried them? You can even heat them up in the microwave.
They have a cookie version, too!

My morning at-work treat is a Starbucks (tall sugar free vanilla non-fat) latte. I don’t get it often. Maybe once a week at most, but it’s my little reward for being so awesome.

1. I am also OCD.
2. Hot sex with candy on top?! I am SO in!
May 8th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Well this is an easy one for me, I get a chai tea from Starbucks almost every morning. It’s so expensive, but so, so good. And sometimes if I need a little extra perk, I get a pastry while I’m there.

YOu just crack me up. Nothing wrong with being organized. But I totally plan to give you crap about it at BlogHer. heehee.
Ohhh as for a little treat… Sometime I go to Quik Trip and get a fountain soda in the a.m. Especially if I wake up with a headache. For some reason it helps. But the 5-year-old in me (who promised that once she grew up, she’d have soda WHENEVER she wanted!)loves that silly little thing. How sad is that?!

mmm that oatmeal looks delicious! I’ll have to try it out.
I think we’ve talked about this before awhile back, but one thing I like to treat myself with is yummy flavored creamer. I don’t do it very often because they are higher in fat than regular creamer (okay, skim milk would be lower in fat, but it’s just not as tasty whaaaaa), but a few times a year I’ll buy a bottle and it just makes my mornings that.much.better.

Fancy coffee! Decaf Lattes are my pregnancy treat!

“A bowl of hot sex with candy on top.” Hahahahaha! That’s awesome!
I haven’t tried that yet, but I too am an instant oatmeal addict. Yummy.

Apparently, I plan vacations! I also like to treat myself to sushi, pedicures, and ice cream. Hot sex and candy sound good too though!

Yummy! Their breakfast cookies are yummy too!!!
