It’s stuff like this that reminds me why I will miss herJune 11th, 2007 @ 7:01 am
My bestest friend May (the one that is moving far, far away, but I refuse to admit it) e-mailed me this morning:
My husband woke me up this morning and wanted me to help him with an errand. He wanted to leave our 2 year old at home asleep alone. AGAIN! He thinks I’m crazy because I told him there was no way I would do this. Ever. Boys are so weird.
Yes, this is the second time he’s suggested they leave their sleeping toddler at home alone while they hurry and run an errand. He thinks this is no big deal. He thinks May is the silly one for pointing out how absurd this is.
Right, she’s the silly one.
I told her that under no circumstances can they leave their child at home alone. Even if she is asleep. I reminded her that this is how people wind up on the evening news. And then in jail.
Dude, being married is hard.
They're just my friends

Good thing that May’s brain works because that poor kid wouldn’t have a chance otherwise.
Just because your child is asleep does not mean he/she is safe. It only takes a split second for a house to catch on fire or something else!
Being married is hard, which is why so many people give up on it so easily.

He should read the story about the little girl who went missing in Portugal when her parents left her and her twin siblings alone in a hotel room.

One of my old neighbors related this story to me. She had left her 3 young children at home sleeping while she took her husband to work. She said to me, “Who would expect smoke to come pouring out of the windows?” And that was I realized a fire had started in her house while she was gone.
Due to other circumstances she no longer has custody of any of her kids.

Oh man, this is why I am not ready to have kids. I totally know that you are all right, and yet, some part of me is still like “Aw, just run out!”
Don’t worry. I am years away for being responsible for another human bean.

We’re having a baby this winter and I am scared, nay, terrified that my husband will suggest this or something equally insane. Why am I judging the guy before the baby even gets here? Well, he once suggested that we leave the dog alone for the weekend. You know, with extra food. Unless the dog learned how to use toilet when I wasn’t looking, then I don’t think so.

Wow, her husband really thinks that that is okay? Poor thing…
And just to think we used to ride around in cars without carseats when we were little….

Some times our spouses smoke crack. And think it is okay.

Hee! Poor May, having to explain why this is Bad and Wrong.
So… is it ok to take the baby monitor and go to the neighbours house for iced tea while the baby sleeps?

Yikes! A pair of idiots over here in Spokane DID wind up on the evening news for doing just that! Of course their “quick errand” was going to score drugs, but still.

My husband has suggested that before. Like he’ll want to run to the store for milk in the morning before they wake up. He calls me a worry wart for vetoing his plan.

Not that I agree with May’s husband, but I know I’ll never have to worry about this with my husband. He is SUCH a worrywart, he’s protective to the point of crazy with our nephew- the exact opposite of May’s husband, apparently!

Thank goodness May doesn’t give in. I mean, you’re so right, that IS how people end up in jail!

That is classic sitcom “man.” Are you sure May is not a sitcom wife?

I feel awkward when I leave Zachary sleeping when I run out to my car. I’ve always felt that when he’s with me, I have to have him in sight at all times. I couldn’t leave him alone to run to the store. It’s like when some people leave their little kids in the car while they run into the store. I mean, come on! Are people really that lazy to take 2 seconds to take the child out of the carseat and put them back in?

I don’t think I would leave a child alone to “run a quick errand” unless that child’s age had two numbers in it. Silly man.
