I always heard my friends talking about stuff, but never really understood it. Until my mom sat me down and told me about it all, and I do mean all. So embarrassing. I am jealous of my friends who just learned from their siblings or other friends, lol. But I also appreciate that my mom feels open enough to talk to me about it, when most parents don’t.

My mom went the opposite way of all those moms who never said anything. We not only had a book that she read through with my sister and I, but– wait for it– it was a pop-up book! It was about how babies developed, but it naturally led to questions about how they got in Mom’s tummy in the first place.

Hahahaha – but seriously? Please don’t make me think of colonoscopy in the same sentence as something sucking. Because the cross-contamination image leaves (heh) a bad taste in my mouth.

A friend’s mother gave her the book. She told me that the penis went inside your vagina. I was in disbelief. Of course, I was also thinking that you peed from your vagina. So I asked a babysitter who assured me that there was a third hole which confused the hell out of me because there were only holes for pee and poop and then I had to look.

My mom didn’t tell me much at all when I was younger, and then it was like the floodgates opened after she got divorced and she shared too much of her sex life and I’m still kind of scarred.
