The diaper bag has left the buildingOctober 11th, 2007 @ 5:01 am
A few years ago The King bought himself a new messenger bag. It was perfect for back when he used to ride his bike to work. The King instantly fell in love with this bag and took him with him everywhere. He took it to work. He took it to church. Heck, we even took it with us on every trip we took to Europe.

When Babboo was born we discussed what would we use as our primary diaper bag. Like most couples we wanted a bag that we could both use without embarrassment. Unfortunately neither of us could agree on a diaper bag that we both liked. We temporarily used a cheap Old Navy bag that wasn’t intended to ever carry diaper. Or anything that looked like it might get near a child. But dude, it’s all we had. And it fit over the handle of the stroller, which was my biggest requirement.
This all changed last Christmas morning when I open a present from The King and found a new fangled messenger bag/diaper bag. He had decided that since he loved his messenger bag so much I would love one as my diaper bag. Plus it was orange, and everybody loves orange.
Unfortunately, I didn’t love the new bag as much as The King did. First of all, it’s huge. Secondly, dude, it’s really huge.

Being the good wife that I am, I used The Diaper Bag. I lugged it with me on outings with friends and out shopping. I stuffed it in the bottom of the stroller and hoped I wouldn’t have to actually get anything out of it, because hello, it was so big I could never find what I was looking for. The Diaper Bag was perfect for trips, since I could carry a week’s worth of Babboo’s things with ease. But for everyday use, it was just huge. It is also very orange and rarely coordinates with my outfits.
Since this new diaper bag wasn’t cheap, there wasn’t any money to spare in our diaper bag fund, so the bag has been used since Christmas morning. It hold way too much stuff. More stuff then Babboo would need on a simple outing to the mall. Or the Pacific Science Center. At this point in the game, we don’t need such a big bag.
Now that my Sweet Babboo is getting a little older, and walking, we’ve started using a new diaper bag. One that fits into my lifestyle a little better.
And also, one that I don’t have to actually carry.

Excellent! You should have tried this earlier - surely he could have managed that while crawling, right?

HAHAHA!
Child labor is ALWAYS funny.
Also: I LOVE the orange diaper bag. I have 5 diaper bags, and I have to tell ya: the best one we’ve had is the one we just bought AND SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT INITIALLY but the sticker shock was overwhelming. I love our SkipHop. Love! (but now I fantasize about your orange diaper bag. I love orange! [and orange always coordinates with black!]).
Anyhoo: heee!

I think I’ve had about 10 different diaper bags for Zach over the last two years, but the backpack that he carries himself is definitely the best. And? He loves to carry it which makes it even better!

Ha! It’s about time that kid started to carry his own weight.
Love the Timbuk2 stuff, but that orange bage is HUGE.

WOW that certainly is a big bag… I agree the bigger the bag, there’s some mental need to feel like it has to be filled… doesn’t matter WHAT its filled with just as long as its maximum occupancy appears to be filled. Bc really whats the point in carrying a big empty looking back…….

Note to self: find small bag that Alyssa can carry.

3 thoughts….
That bag is freakin ginormous!
Babboo is so cute with his little backpack.
My husband has the same bag (I think the King’s size) but it’s red, black, and yellow.

YAYAY! I am so glad you posted this. The pic of Babboo is priceless, not to mention adorable, and, yeah, the Timbuk2 one is definitely very large and very orange.

That is the biggest messenger bag in the world.
Babboo’s little orange backpack just made my heart explode. It’s almost as precious as when little girls carry around purses. Ok, I lied, Babboo is cuter.

That is the cutest thing I have ever seen. His own backpack. I think its a strange feeling when you can “graduate” to a smaller bag — means less stuff to lug around, but also means they are growing up - sniff sniff

Are you supposed to carry Babboo in that giant orange bag along with his diapers? Seriously huge.
That last photo is adorable.

While that original diaper bag is HUGE, I LOVE IT!
Absolutely love it. But then again I have a thing for bags, and shoes, and jackets, and well all accessories.
Ahem.
Great idea with the smaller backpack, and he looks so darn cute wearing it!

Babboo looks so cute with his backpack…but it looks like he’s trying to escape!
I can’t remember where I was the other day, but I saw a cute bag advertised as a diaper bag and I actually really loved it…I love all the pockets for things! I can not bring myself to buy an actual diaper bag though. We are thankfully long past the diaper stage.

oh that is such a good idea - do you think four months is too young to be carrying around your own backpack??

No real diaper bag is actually big enough to hold the myriad of essentials when toting a small child….you have to get the bigger non baby bags…and your purse quickly becomes a thing of the past because all you really need is your wallet.
Cute photo of Baboo…off we go to daycare…then pre-school…then elementary school - where the backpack isn’t sufficient. You will need a rolling bag for all the stuff they make school kids lug around these days!

Every day you’re getting closer to him wiping his own butt, doing laundry and cooking for you. You are SO close.

I really like Timbuk2 bags. That one is huge, though.
I love diaper bags so much, that I maintained an online store for a few years, just so I could shop wholesale.
My all time favorite is the Coach quilted baby bag. I tear up just thinking about the one I sold. Of course it was too nice to use. I think it went to church with us twice in two years.

That is the FREAKIN’ cutest thing I have ever seen!!! I love the backpack. Shaun has one for Zachary, it’s a little Dr. Seuss one, but He’s never actually worn it. He’s so wearing it now, haha! So cute!
I remember the dreadful Diaper bag… ugh! I hated it. Lugging it around everywhere, and all the crap that was in it. So glad the diaper bag days are over.

1) That’s why children are so useful. They can do things that you wouldn’t want to do
2) I want one of those messanger bags. For some reason I’m drawn to them.

lol! That is too cute…lil bamboo carryinghis own diaper bag. Since I was by myself when my son was born, I had no diaper bag issues. It was simply a BIG purse…11 years later, everyone is carrying big purses. Yes Isabel, I started the big purse trend!
