I wonder if this band will be playing at Thanksgiving dinner?

Posted by Isabel on October 22nd, 2007. Filed under: Churchy Stuff.

I always sit in the back of the class during Sunday school. Even though The King is the teacher, I suck and usually sit back there so I can catch up on the week’s happenings with my friends.

I assure you that I’m amazing and can listen completely to what The King happens to be teaching, and also hear about who’s pregnant, who’s recently engaged, and who’s moving. You know, the things that Jesus would want me to learn in Sunday school.

Yesterday started out no different from any other Sunday. That is until they sent around a sign-up sheet for the upcoming potluck Thanksgiving dinner at our church. (I signed up to bring a dessert, thanks for asking. I figure I can just buy something from the store on our way to the church. I don’t have time to bake anything.) Anyway, at this time I happened to look down at the pink pen that was attached to the sign-up sheet and noticed it was a advertisement pen, which is fine, except that is was advertising something that maybe isn’t the most church approved.

Oh yes, it’s the Hanky Panky Band from Seatac, Washington.

(I quick google search for this particular band proves that their advertisements didn’t help much.)

Poor, poor Hanky Panky Band. Maybe you should have advertised at places other then churches. I’m just saying.

Remember how I mentioned something about exciting news pertaining to SeattleMomBlogs and me last week? Well, as off today, I officially write my own column over there!! So come on over and learn a little more about what it’s like to be a mom and a woman working nine to five.

(I actually work seven to three. Can I still sing the song about working nine to five, or is that misleading? And seriously, does anyone get to start work at nine? Dude, that’s late.)

And you know you want to read about my latest New Thing. It involved pretty shoes and good bargains.

One thing I love about NYC is that 9 is a fine time to start work. Later? Even better. Apparently some people need to talk to those silly west coasters.

  2. Carrie

Yes, you can sing the song.

And maybe we can get that band to play for our next “party”?

I’m lucky if I manage to make it in by 9:30….unless the wife drives me to work, then I’m in by 7:15. Some people just don’t function well before 9am….we are those that have no children.

Congrats on the SeattleMomsBlogs thing. :)

how do you get to work by 7? that pen cracks me up… my boss’ wife works at an infertility clinic and recently gave me a pen that has little “heads & tails” floating around in it. i could let you borrow that one for church if you would like =)

    Congrats on the column!

I work 9-5, and it kicks ass. I know it probably won’t still be my schedule whenever I get my next job, so I am enjoying it as much as I can right now.

I actually do work from 9-5:30 (half hour lunch break in there) and it’s quite awesome. Of course, it’d be MORE awesome to get home at three. Frankly, I’d rather get up early and get home early.

Oh, and I LOVE that this pen was circulating in church. Did anyone else notice?

I could not work at 7am. Just not possible for me. My brain doesn’t function in the morning. I have to get in by 8:30, but let’s be honest: nothing gets done until after 10am. I wish my office were more flexible with hours, because I work best in the afternoon… although I don’t want to be stuck here past 5 either. what i need is a part time job that pays a full time salary. 10-3, those would be nice hours.

embarrassed to admit I’m lucky to arrive at the office by 9:30. And happy if I get to leave before 6:30. Gosh, that’s depressing.

Congrats on the new gig — I hope you make some moolah on it!!!

That pen is AWESOME! I’m just wondering how it got to church in the first place.

Congrats on the column! I can’t wait to start reading it! I have plenty of time during my work day, haha. I work from 11:30 to 5:00 on Mon, Wed, and Friday, you know, because of school. And from 6:00am to 9:00am on Tue and Thurs. One day I’ll have a normal schedule, haha!

  12. Rachel

Congrats on the column!!! I am off to check it out!

Wow, congrats on the column! You don’t have enough going on already?

    That pen, completely hilarious.

Congrats on the new gig! I’m going to jump over there and read it as soon as I’m done here….and I’m checking out your new thing too – of course!

The pen was funny, did anyone else notice?

Come to the east coast girl…plenty of New Yorkers roll into work around 10. Course, they work until 7 or 8, but who’s counting?

  16. May

Yeah, I had one of those awesome novelty pens from Las Vegas where you turn it upside-down & the man’s black speedo drains away to…nothing but his natural self. OF COURSE it was always the only pen I had available to take notes when I was in my Bible Class. (That pen stuck around for WAY too long…)

Also, someone snuck a pen advertising Viagra in my Bishop’s pencil cup. That still makes me giggle…

  17. Durga

haha the pen’s funny. n i hate pot lucks!

most people i know work 9-5. except for my doctor, nurse and corporate slave friends.

7am start seems so early! but the construction business does do early start- early finish shifts rite?.

  18. Fraulein N

Congrats on the column! I work from 9 to 5. I think I’d rather come in earlier and get off at 3, so I could get more done.

Can I ask a really, really weird question? What is the font you used in that photo?

  19. Loralee

BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
    Oh, THAT is hilarious!

  20. Danielle

The best part about this post is that you took a picture of the pen! (always thinking of your blog, right?) I imagine you had to be somewhat incognito with the cell phone cam? I don’t think I’d be able to keep a straight face. hehe.

Can’t wait to check out your new column! Congrats!
