Little things that make a big difference
Posted by Isabel on December 4th, 2007. Filed under: Apartment Living, Me.I know it’s not even that far into December, but already I’ve noticed that I’m just not feeling the Christmas spirit. Sure I’ve done my fair share of Christmas shopping. I’ve begun my gift making process. I’ve mailed gifts to far away family and friends. I’ve ordered gifts online. I’ve wrapped presents. Heck, I even put up a tiny pink tree in our tiny apartment.

While it may be hard to tell in this picture, this cute pink tree is uber tiny. It’s so tiny that I can’t find lights to use on it. Do you know what a hot pink Christmas tree is without twinkle lights? It’s merely a plain old tree. No good can come from a Christmas tree with no lights.
End of story.
I needed a new tree. I needed something that twinkled and sparkled in the dark, something to help get me excited for the upcoming holiday. Last night while picking up a few things at Target, I fought exactly what I was looking for:

And it only cost $2.50. (The previous tree was $8.00 at Urban Outfitters. Boo!) It’s big enough for pretty lights, came with it’s own (pink) stand, and fits perfectly on Babboo’s chest of drawers. Putting the little tree together was our Monday night family activity. Believe it or not, this little tree lifted my spirits.
You know else lifted my spirits yesterday? My new glasses:

You may, like The King, think they look suspiciously like my old glasses. If you think this, you would be wrong. These glasses are brown, to match my hair. And the sides are thicker.

Dude, it only took me nine months to finally get my butt in gear and get the new glasses I talked about back in March. I’m happy with them. Not only are they fun and new…but um yeah, they help me see better.
And that is always a good thing.

I love your new little tree and your glasses! Both are truly fabulous!
I’m having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year, too. Even though I’m almost completely done with my shopping and have wrapped all of the gifts I’ve bought so far, all the while listening to Christmas music. I keep trying, but I’m just not feeling it yet. Maybe this weekend when we decorate the house I’ll start to get into the spirit of things. Or maybe if we could have some snow here instead of the eerily-September-like 60-degree days. That might help, too.

What is it about the new thing that makes things so exciting? I haven’t bought new glasses in. . .well, I think since my sophomore year in high school. So, maybe this year?

I love your tree(s)!! Very Charlie Brown. A bit retro and totally awesome.
Love the glasses too – but am more excited about the pink tree.

I love the tree and the glasses!
I couldn’t get into the holiday spirit until I decorated my house either. Now I am feeling ready for Christmas!

I love your (two) pink tree(s)!! See now, if Joel had proposed getting a tiny pink tree, I’d be on board.
Love the new glasses too!

Love the new glasses! I’m quite jealous. I also love your pink tree. I am trying to find a wreath to hang all of my ornaments on…a friend of mine did it and it looked great. So, I’m being a copy cat!

That pink tree was only $2.50? At that price, how could you not? Once we get our tree, I think that Christmas spirit will finally settle in…I’m just not really feeling it yet either.
(love the glasses too! so hip and modern and hot!)

Your glasses are fabulous. I’m due for new ones in January, when I reorder my contacts. As much as I love the Prada, I can’t wait to pick out a new pair!
And yes, pink trees are awesome.

I don’t think I’ve seen a hot pink Christmas tree before! I am glad that you found it and it help lift your spirits up!! The glasses are super cute!

Both the tree and the glasses look fabulous!

While I love both the hott pink tree and your brand new glasses, everyone is complementing you on them and I am not a follower. Instead I will tell you that I love the sweater you’re wearing. It really brings out your eyes, and? it’s not black. Bonus.

It cracks me up that fifty years from now, Little Babboo will see photos of pink Christmas trees and get all nostalgic. “Why can’t we have an OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS?” he’ll wonder. “with traditional PINK TREES?”

I love your new glasses!

Very cute tree. Are you getting blown away from all the flooding & winds?! I hope you’re ok.
December 4th, 2007 at 9:15 pm
I love the new glasses, they look awesome.
And the pink trees rocks. I’m not really in the spirit yet either. I’m just being neurotic about the stupid gifts.

I dig BOTH. I wish I could have a Christmas tree but alas three cats (demons) have prevented this.

Pink trees are the new black (or something). I saw one at Bed Bath & Beyond too!

That new-and-improved pink tree is a steal! Wish I’d seen that when I was at Target this weekend!
December 5th, 2007 at 1:35 am
Holy cow! Our glasses are so flippin’ similar! I love them.

Wait? Aren’t you under water? Am I wrong or aren’t you in the Northwest of the country?? Geesh, the news out here (Northeast) has you floating away, but you seem ok with your coolest pink tree and awesome glasses! Hope you stay nice and dry.

That pink tree is adorable! And I love the glasses, makes me think I should ditch the contacts and go back to glasses!
December 5th, 2007 at 5:27 am
Oh the pink tree is great! I love it! And those glasses. They look fab on you! (that sweater makes your eyes stand out!)

I like the new glasses! Very chic.
The pink tree is festive. Different, but festive.

Did you go to the awesome Target with the cart-escalator? I miss that Target. And if I were there, I totally would have noticed that those were new glasses, because they ARE brown & they ARE thicker on the sides. I get it.
I’m sad our red trees will not be making an appearance this season. But I’m not sad enough to go through the storage unit to find them either…

We put up our tree last night with music and decorations and even homemade eggnog and yet I’m still all ‘eh’ about the holiday. Totally not into it. This whole cavalier attitude about Christmas is really starting to get on my nerves. Perhaps if I get an (awesome) pink tree, that will help lift my spirits.
December 6th, 2007 at 3:15 pm
great glasses! i love that they are brown to match your hair. i just got navy blue glasses to match my eyes =)
and a PINK Christmas tree? you are my hero… i could never convince my husband that we needed a pink tree.
December 7th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Oh.My.Gosh. I love the pink tree(s)!!! I would absolutely LOVE a little pink tree to put in my room to match my pink comforter and my pink curtains. Where did you get it at?
And I love the new glasses! Looking HOTT!

[...] I admit that I had never really watched A Charlie Brown Christmas before. Yes, that’s crazy to admit. Especially since I refer to my son as my Sweet Babboo on a regular basis. But now that I’ve seen it a million or so times I’m in love with it. I love the songs (of course) and the dancing. I love the characters. I love the mention of a pink Christmas tree. But most of all I love the mention of the true meaning of Christmas. [...]
