I don’t know how a 20 month old kid should react to Christmas
Posted by Isabel on December 26th, 2007. Filed under: Apartment Living, My Sweet Babboo, The King, They're just my family.I don’t know how I expected Babboo to react to Christmas. I didn’t really have any expectations. But dude, the kid woke up on Christmas morning and just wanted to eat his breakfast while sitting on the presents.
Oh yes, it was very exciting.
After a little prodding we got him to open some toys. But after he started to play with them, he was d-o-n-e opening gifts. The King and I opened our gifts and then tried to get Babboo to open some more of his.
“Babboo, why don’t you open this present from Grandma?”
“No. No, no, no. No!”
“But it might be another toy to play with.”
“NOOOOOO! No.”
“Okay dude. Sorry I asked.”
We spent the rest of Christmas day at The King’s parents house, begging and pleading with Babboo to open the million more gifts from them.
“Look what Mimi got you. Why don’t you open it Babboo?”
“No!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Never mind.”
Thankfully there was snow falling outside to watch through the windows and tons and tons of junk food to eat.
And thankfully Babboo woke up this morning and was very excited to get to play with all the toys he wasn’t that interested in yesterday.
All in all, I’d say we had a pretty good Christmas at our house.
So tell me, how was your Christmas?

That picture of Babboo eating his breakfast on the presents is adorable. I love it! Sounds like he had a super fun Christmas, even if he wasn’t interested in opening too many gifts.
Merry Christmas, Isabel, King, and Babboo!

Well my 3 yr old did the same thing – she wanted to play with her presents right when they are opened, not open more gifts! It’s funny how they are all aobut opening gifts and then quickly change their minds! Glad you had a good Christmas!!

Opening all those presents must have seemed like a lot of work for poor, weary Babboo. Sigh.
Merry Christmas! Our was lovely and quiet. I got a $10 amazon gift card from Joel’s family, which was spent by 10am. Hurry up new CDs and arrive!!

Totally normal. Both of my boys went to a total stand still after the first gift and were not interested in jack after that.
At least until they discovered the joy of discarded bags and boxes, which were WAY more awesome than any silly “Tickle me Elmo” that I almost committed manslaughter to obtain.
Sigh…

Enjoy this while it lasts! My youngest is 3, and the kids now open everything within about 30 minutes of insanity.

This is the first year that our four-in-April-year old really got Christmas. She knew what she wished for (a dollhouse), she shouted her wish to Santa (from about five yards away… he’s a creepy guy, you know), and she counted down to Christmas.
We assumed that she wouldn’t want to open or play with anything but the dollhouse, but she surprised the heck out of us. She opened everything, expressed genuine delight (or at least positive feelings) about everything (except for the clothes… we all know those are boring for kiddos), and paid attention to everyone else’s gifts too.
Who IS this kid all of a sudden?
Enough about ME… your Baboo is darling sitting atop the presents, and I’m glad that he’s excited about the presents today.

The packaging is always the best! part of the presents, right? Happy! Christmas.

I think Babboo’s reaction was pretty common. This is the first Christmas Zach actually opened presents without coaxing, and he’s 4. Actually, that’s not entirely true. When he was woke up by Daddy and his uncles on Christmas morning, he was NOT happy. He didn’t care that Santa came, he wanted to go back to bed. He didn’t open any of the presents they got him. It wasn’t until he was fully awake that he was wanting to open presents, and he tore all of them open.
I think it just takes them a few years to fully understand how these holidays work.

Glad you had a great Christmas. Hope your new year’s just as great!

I guess Babboo is just telling you what he thinks about consumerism. It goes well with his future indie rockstar persona, really.
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!! (a little late)

Aw, Babboo looks adorable! My kids were all over their gifts, as soon as they started opening them they couldn’t keep their paws off everything they touched! We had a great Christmas and I’m glad you did too!

Ha ha ha! Alyssa was kind of the same way. She would unwrap something and then want us to open that so she could play with it! I am glad he had a good Christmas!

Babboo – too cute!
One good thing about being single on Christmas is that you get to fill your own stocking – and therefore you get exactly what you want! New CD, lip gloss, notepad, spatula…

What a smart kid you’ve got there, spreading out the presents over a few days. I like the idea!

I bet next year will be different… AS’s 3-year old niece was all about the presents!! Before this year, I hadn’t spent Christmas with a bona fide child in many years. It was nice!
