Awww Seattle! You are so lucky to be close to the action!
I went to school on Capital Hill, and once I saw a big fat old man in a hot pink shirt and on his lower half was a huge cloth diaper. He was also wearing meak-up and a binky around his neck. It was beautiful.

While I'm geeking out here on Isabel's blog, let me also add that people who go to cons aren't called gamers, although many of them probably are gamers.

In context, they are called Fans. The F is capitalized. In context, Fans and the people and events that make up Fandom, was originally short for Science Fiction fans. Fan could now include anime, comics, and probably any genre of role playing game.

GenCon is different. There are hundreds of cons like these, all over the world. If you were really determined, not to mention rich, you could probably go to one every weekend all year.

Also? It makes me sad that GenCon was in Indy! GenCon was a Wisconsin institution.

I am such a geek.

I was in town for a very small conference in Indianapolis the same weekend as a very big gaming conference called Gen-Con - was this the same one? Our hotel has a lot of Gen-Con people at the breakfast buffet wearing horns that looked incredibly real, etc. Weird!

So my husband and I were walking around Seattle on Saturday and we kept seeing these people all over the place! The first one, we just thought it was some strange girl, but then we caught on. It was very entertaining and we managed to follow some for a while trying to figure out where they all were coming from, but we got distracted and went to the library instead (which btw is awesome, just like you said!). And you are right, the gamers definitely had the "what's the big deal, maybe you're the one who is dressed weird... this ninja costume is totally normal" attitude about them.
