In which the Baby Jesus is given gifts of frankincense, myrrh, and a pistol
Posted by Isabel on December 9th, 2008. Filed under: My Sweet Babboo, Random, The New House.Christmas is like tomorrow!!
Okay, maybe it’s more like in two weeks. Okay, a little over two weeks. But still, IT’S ALMOST CHRISTMAS. And dude, I sort of had a mini freak out last week over Christmas. It went something like this:
“oh my goodness, I haven’t bought one single gift and crap I don’t even know what to buy and oh my goodness I need to decorate my house and send out cards but I don’t feel like decorating my house or sending out cards and holy crap why can’t Christmas just be about JESUS?!”
Thankfully I decided to breath. And then I started making lists. And then I started crafting. (I can’t seem to stop crafting at this point.) And then I ordered Christmas cards. And then I bought some gifts online. And then we put up our tree (but we didn’t put any ornaments on it because we have a cat and a toddler).
(And yes, those are our bathroom doors in the corner of the picture. They still haven’t been hung up. So yeah, if you come to visit us…we have no doors on our bathrooms. Um, sorry.)
After we put up our (real) tree we decided to get out our many nativity sets. I had forgotten we had so many awesome ones. I was especially excited to see the Playmobil nativity I bought years before we had a kid. (Hey, even adults like a mini Playmobil Baby Jesus!) (At least this adult does.)
Come to find out, even Babboo was a huge fan of this particular nativity set. He really liked how all the pieces just happened to look very similar to his book on Christmas that we’ve been reading every night before bed.
Seriously, I was surprised at how his book looked EXACTLY like this nativity set. I wonder if the artist used Playmobil as inspiration for his illustrations. There is really nothing cuter then a teeny tiny Baby Jesus….
….laying behind a Pirate hat? And wait, is that a pirate standing over baby Jesus? Oh yes, it would seem that somehow our Playmobil pirate set was merged with our nativity set. The best part is the confusion this lead to when The King’s mom babysat Babboo last week and wasn’t sure why the three wise men were giving guns and swords to the Baby Jesus?
(Hey, it was a violent time back then. Even Baby Jesus needed to be prepared to fight the evil King Herod.)
So yeah, we’re getting a little more and more prepared for Christmas at our house. We have a tree up (no ornaments or gifts…yet) and one nativity set out (and one pirate set) and a kitchen table covered in Christmas cards (that need to be addressed) and CRAFTS. (Dude, MAKE ME STOP CRAFTING!)
So tell me, how ready are you for Christmas?

Guess who this week’s lucky winner of a lovely Kate Gadd fused glass piece is? It’s Christar!
Christar left a totally random comment about Edward’s hottness and a dream about K-Fed:
EDWARD’S HOTTTTT!
Speaking of Edward and Christmas (which really isn’t related to what I’m about to tell you), I had a dream last night that Rob and I were dating and he took me home to London to meet his family for Christmas. And he was super romantic and sweet to me, and I loved the way he said my name in his adorable British accent, and his parents totally loved me. And then K-Fed showed up and ruined everything! Don’t ask me why he showed up, I have no clue. But everything before that way totally awesome.
I can’t wait to send Christar her prize. (It’s a ring. And it’s pretty! And I know she’s going to love it.)

So we bought that same nativity set this year, and my kids love it, the neighborhood kids love it, it’s a big love-fest for the nativity. Cause they can’t break it.
And, we also have a pirate in our set, but that’s because my kids added it, because the lantern on the pirate ship MATCHES the lantern in Joseph’s hand, so they were obviously meant to be together. Our houses are twins. Well, almost, cause my pirate has a green coat, not red. I love playmobile!

Is the pirate’s name Garibaldi?
Also, there is a Little People Nativity Set that is DARLING. I should buy one for my “NIECE”.

Soooo not ready. Mostly because it’s still so up in the air about who is giving gifts to whom. My family hasn’t traded gifts in years, but this year some people are like, “Well, I don’t want to do a Secret Santa, but I don’t know about a gift exchange either…” And the Pretend Husband already bought for his parents, but is trying to convince his sister they should skip buying gifts for each other. It’s maddening and totally impossible to figure out who I’m supposed to be shopping for this year!

I have to email you a picture of my daughter’s nativity that she made in school last year – wait, maybe I sent it to you last year? Its not to play with but CUTEST THING EVER.
I am so unprepared for christmas.

I have a tree up, and that’s about it. Oh, and a carved nativity with hippopotami instead of sheep, it’s awesome.

If I tell you I am done with my shopping, save for small things for Maddy’s stocking, will I get flamed? Dude, I just moved, I had to get it done. Thank goodness for online shopping.

I’m almost done with shopping but only because this kid will be here in a week and a half. You’ve got time. Loads of time in my book.

haha that is a wonderful story.
At my house, I’ve bought the gifts for Christmas. Bought the cards but haven’t started writing them yet. Many people got my card a weeks after christmas in 2007. I want to be better organised though. The tree is up. Its a fake little fibre optic tree so it just does weird cool light things which sits on a corner table. whooa! I put up a few little Christmassy decorations – not much though. I don’t feel like celebrating very much this year for some reason. Maybe just the general mood. hehe
We are flying to Adelaide (inter state) and we leave for the airport in 1.5hrs. I’m still awake and just sorta finished packing. We are going there becos my husband’s brother is getting married there (his fiance was born and raised there and wanted to be married in the Adelaide temple). We spend a couple of extra days there and fly back next wednesday.
Thats what has been going on in my life. How are you guys doing? These pics are so great. Write to me when u can.
lots of love,
Durga

OMG, I love your Playmobil nativity!!! I think we need one at our house, too.
As for the rest of Christmas…sigh…I don’t really have anything to prepare. Since we are going to be in Portland for the holiday itself, I’m not decorating here (meh to that) and since there is no money in the budget for gifts, I’m not shopping, either. Meh to that, too. So I’m feeling somewhat crumudgeonly about Christmas and am, really, trying to just make it about Jesus this year and not about the decorations or the presents, which, it should be about Jesus regardless of my budget or location on the 25th. Even so, it just doesn’t feel much like Christmas without a tree and some fancy wrapping paper.

I’m glad to hear that the pirates didn’t abscond with Mary and take her off with them.
