In which I finally leave the house so I can meet up with bloggers for breakfast
Posted by Isabel on December 29th, 2008. Filed under: Blog Addiction, They're just my friends, Work.Holy crap, people. I’m at work today. I was scheduled to take this entire week off, but after being shut in because of THE SNOW for the last week and a half I HAD TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE. So I’m at the office. The King’s at home (his office is closed this week) working on the new closet system in Babboo’s room. And Babboo’s at school.
We all needed a little “away from each other” time.
I was happy to shower before noon, put on real clothes and heels and leave the house this morning. The King is happy to not have Babboo and me underfoot while he’s trying to work on the house. And Babboo is happy to be with his real friends.
You must remember that I grew up in Utah. I’ve seen my fair share of snow. Dude, most of my life was spent in a real live snow globe state. When it snows in Utah nothing changes. You are still expected to show up for school, work and church. But out here in Seattle THE ENTIRE CITY SHUTS DOWN at the mere mention of snow. I always thought this was hilarious. Like Seattlelites were just a bunch of snow pansies.
I know better now.
It’s not that they are afraid of the snow. It’s that the city of Seattle doesn’t own a single snow plow. We would have literally died if we tried to leave the street we live on and head to work. The roads were complete ice. And because we’re all hippies out here, they also don’t believe in salting the roads (it’s bad for the environment, or something), so ICE, everywhere.
We couldn’t even get to the grocery store. The King had to walk there.
(Goal for 2009: Work on our food storage.)
We had a lovely Christmas, stuck inside our house watching the snow fall and dreaming of the days when we could leave the house.
(It starting raining on Sunday. Which washed away any remnant of the snow. THANK GOODNESS.)
I walked to the bus stop this morning, like normal. I didn’t have to wear my gloves or my snow boots.
And then I got to meet these lovely ladies for late second breakfast.

Note to Heidi and Jihan: let’s hang out again soon.
Note to Isabel: don’t wear that pink camisole under your black turtleneck next time. It makes you look like a fool.

I’m such a tool.
So tell me, how was your Holiday? (And it is wrong that I’m super excited about the new pace heater I got from Santa?)

My holiday was good, but I’m glad it’s over. I’m at work, too, and enjoying the quiet.
And no, it is not wrong to be supre happy over a space heater. I am overjoyed with my Kitchen Aid mixer – cookie making commence!

I think I read that we have like 27 snow plows for all of Seattle. And the sanding vs. de-icing was all about the rise in salt in the Puget Sound being bad for the sea life. I mean, I get it. But STILL we need a better plan because the way Seattle acts in snow is ridiculous. There were so many accidents and people trying to get to work when it was NOT SAFE.
Ugh.
I’ve never been so glad to see rain in all my life.

I’m madly in love with the rain. MADLY IN LOVE.
And, dude, I need some snow boots.

SO glad the rain is here!

Oh my gosh! Funny boob! (I’ve been a victim of the same thing. Why do we only notice afterward when we see the photos?)

I need blogger friends to go out to lunch with.

Haha, I have so done that before. Except in my case it was my bra. White bra under a pink sweater that is. The camera flash is not our friend.

Heh…you should see us when the weather gets a little wintry. If there’s any kind of sleet/snow/”wintry mix” in the forecast, the grocery stores are PACKED. And then, if the weather actually does turn frosty (which it hasn’t done in about 5 years), everything closes up. It’s hilarious.
I think a space heater is an excellent gift! My favorite gift this year was the Gary Wong flash diffuser that the Mr. bought for me.
Hey, at least you were wearing a cami! The pink adds interest, I think.

Breakfast with blogger friends sounds like a lot of fun. I’m sure I’m going to want OUT by this Friday. I’m home all week with the little one while my husband has to work, and I’m finding out that I like the little break that work brings at least once in a while. Luckily, she’s going to daycare on Friday, my husband is going to work, and I get to have the whole day to myself. I can’t wait!

Hehe in England everything stops with the tiniest amount of snow – and trains seem to stop at the mere touch of a leaf on the tracks!! Seems so weird after living in Russia for 3 months in the winter where tractors come by every day to clear the roads (I almost got knocked over by one once and ended up waist high in a snow drift!!) but it’s true… England is just not prepared to cope with snowfall just like Seattle!! We do salt the roads though lol

I am so glad you showered! And left the house! And met up with me for breakfast!! Huzzah for Seattle girlfriends!
)
And about that pink boob–I hear it’s the New Best Thing.

Merry Christmas!
The snow was insane! It snowed for close to three days straight and I was stuck in my house for all 3 of them. It sucked. I hated it. I got depressed. I’m ready for winter to be over!
I had an awesome Christmas! My whole Christmas was pretty much dedicated to Twilight. And I loved it. Now I’m sick with a horrible sore throat that I inadvertently gave to Zach, but at least I don’t have school for two weeks and I’m going to be lazy and enjoy every second of it.

It’s a dark, dark day when you have to go into work just to get out of the house. Please to send some snow my way, please and thank you.
