In which I ask you to not look up my skirt
Posted by Isabel on January 13th, 2009. Filed under: Addictions, I Rock, The King, Work. The King and I went to Old Navy the week after Christmas to check out their sales. (We were looking for inexpensive sweaters for him.) We didn’t find him any sweaters at the price we wanted. What we I found was an entire rack of skirts marked $1.99.
Needless to say I bought four of them.
(I would have bought more, but they only had four in anything close to my size.)
Last week I went to Macy’s to check out their One Day Sale. I typically find good stuff for Babboo during these sales, so I was happy to browse the Boys section. This trip to Macy’s turned out to be a little different then trips in the past. Mostly because my friend, who just happens to be an executive with Macy’s, went shopping with me. She is an expert Macy’s shopper and showed me the best departments to look through.
Turns out the best department to shop for sales at Macy’s isn’t the Boys section.
Go figure.
Apparently the dress/skirt department at Macy’s has unheard of deals.
And that is how I ended up with two new dresses last week. Both dresses bought for less then $15 each. (Both were originally priced at well over $100 each!)
That’s a total of SIX new skirts/dresses in the last few weeks. I must also add that I bought a new skirt and dress at Ann Taylor Loft right before Christmas. (Both priced UNDER $4.)
That brings the total up to EIGHT.
Plus my mom gave me a new sweater dress for Christmas. (And some new leggings which keep my legs toasty during the winter.)
That brings the total up to NINE dresses/skirts.
(All acquired for less then about $40.)
There was no way I was getting past The King noticing this new trend in my clothing spending. A trend that is really not typical to my past spending.
“Do you really need that many skirts and dresses?!”
(He brings up a very good question.)
“Of course I need that many. I have to wear one to Church every Sunday.”
“Yeah, but only for like three hours. Couldn’t you just wear the same black one every Sunday?”
Wear the same one? Oh, the horror.
In an attempt to convince The King that yes, I do need that many dresses/skirts I’ve decided to wear one to work everyday this week.
Yesterday I wore my new black floral dress from Macy’s. Today I’m wearing my high waisted puff skirt from Old Navy. Maybe tomorrow I’ll wear one of my Ann Taylor dresses.
Or maybe I’ll just shoot myself. Because dude, I’m already sick of dresses.
And it’s only Tuesday.
So tell me, if I do make it through the week, do you think any of my (male) coworkers will notice I’ve worn a dress/skirt all week? My vote is they won’t notice.

I love buying dresses too. They always seem to be such a bargain. And I only have like 3 skirts, so I’ve been on a skirt kick. Two from Target for $5 each. Can’t argue with that.

Am upset with Kaleigha for not telling me about her $5 skirts. And, you wonder why I quit my job!? (we work together, if you didn’t get that).
But, anyway, what I want to know is, Why is there a section at Macy’s called CARDIGAN, in which there are NO ACTUAL CARDIGANS???
Can you please ask your friend that?

I’m so jealous! I’ve gotten some goods deals lately, but nothing like you’ve gotten. I think your co-workers will notice. I know that when I used to wear jeans to work everyday, anytime I dressed up, I got told I looked nice and asked if I had been interviewing elsewhere! I wear skirts and dresses almost everyday in the summer, but rarely in the winter because it’s just too cold (perhaps I need to invest in some tights like your mom got you because, my tights? Don’t keep me warm at all).

Sca-hore! Awesome! Yes, I’ve found a few really great deals at Macy’s, too. Particularly an adorable skirt that I got for $4.00. That just doesn’t seem right. But hey, who am I to complain, right?

I’m one of those people who tries to wear jeans every day, mixed in with slacks. I wore a skirt ONCE and everyone was saying how nice I looked, how dressed up, I must be going on a date. With my job, its really awkward wearing a skirt because then I’ll end up covering flooding and snowstorms in pumps. haha.

Dude. I LOVE skirts and dresses. I wouldn’t care if I could never wear shorts or pants again!

I think that until The King can put together such fashionable outfits for that price then he should just shut it.
Does he wear the same exact thing to church every Sunday?

I’m just impressed you have that many pairs of tights. I never have enough tights that will actually stay up. They always get shrunk in the dryer because I’m too lazy to hand wash & hang them up.
I’m jealous of your shopping success. I tried 3 times to shop for clothes recently, and still ended up with only 1 thing I actually liked. I must be picky because I can’t find anything I like lately. Sigh.
I bet you look great, and they probably will notice, but not let you know they noticed. Boys are sneaky like that.

They are so going to be thinking you’ve got interviews this week.

Pictures! we must have them.

I’m with you, Isabel. The thought of putting on tights/pantyhose (don’t you hate the word “panty” btw) and trudging through winter weather makes me dry heave. Unless it’s summer and I can go bare legged and bedecked in sandles…forget it.
And I’m betting there’s no way your male coworkers will notice unless the neckline plunges to your navel or the slit rises up to meet your French Cut Jockeys. Unless of course he’s gay, then all bets are off cause Honey, he’ll be all over that haute couture. *snap*
Really impressive sales score!!

I personally love to buy skirts, dresses and stockings! However, I end up practically NEVER wearing them as I work from home and spend 99% of my day in pj’s (which cannot be good for my mental health).

I need to find some good skirts & dresses. I thought about hitting Macy’s 1-day sale, but lack of $ scared me from it. Should have listened to my deal-seeking intuition! And I am the one in the marriage questioning the clothing. Really dear, do you need ANOTHER jacket? Really? (You’ve seen the boxes. BOXES. of clothing. You are a witness. He does not need any more clothes.) I, on the other hand…

I apparently suck at finding deals…but when I DO find a deal I always tell people. It goes like this, “Oh, I love your !” and then I say, “Thanks! It only cost $3!” Is that in poor taste? I can’t STOP myself!!
And the guys won’t notice. Unless they’re into you. So if one says somethings steer clear.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
I’d love to see pictures of the dresses you’re wearing to work!

As a
cheaperr… “FRUGAL” shopper I LOVE hearing about your shopping deals. I need more clothing desperately but I hate shopping and trying on clothes so I have accepted my only decent clothing are hand-me-downs from my teen daughters. LOL.January 14th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
They were good deals, and you were doing your patriotic duty to stimulate the economy!
January 14th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
I am a dress and skirt fiend. I would wear them every day. I practically do!
January 14th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
I wear skirts and dresses almost every day. Saturday is the notable exception. And the 9 dresses for $40 bucks is a STEAL. Man, I wish I was a more irregular (i.e. tiny) size.
xox

I wish I could find awesome deals like that when I actually go shopping…..you really scored!
Photos of said dresses, please?
And I bet that your male co-workers notice that you’ve worn a dress to work every day this week, they just won’t say anything. Either that or they’ll just be thinking all along that you are interviewing for a new job.

[...] Monday I decided to wear one of the two new dresses I had bought at Macy’s the previous week FOR FIFTEEN DOLLARS. [...]
