In which I do my part to stimulate the economy

The King and I had a blast at his Casino Night holiday party a few weeks ago. I sort of forgot to report on that. (Bad Blogger!) I wore my Monday dress and The King wore one of his beautiful suits (purchased for a song at Nordstrom Rack). He was afraid we were going to be overdressed and had almost convinced me to change into jeans before we headed out the door.

I decided to take heed to my mother’s advice and stick with the dress. (My mother’s advice? “It’s better to be over dressed then under dressed!”)

The King works in a very creative field, which means he works with young, hott creative types. I work in a very analytic field, which means I work with old men who line their pencils up on their desks according to color and usage. (I am not kidding.) Needless to say, I was not prepared for the awesomeness that was Casino Night. Dude, his coworker know how to par-tay. They also know how to dress up. It’s a GOOD thing I didn’t wear jeans. (Hey, I’m just saying.)

There was lots of (free!) booze flowing, tons of food (buffet!), casino tables and KARAOKE. Put all those things together, even on a week night, and you get one hell of party. Even though we don’t drink (in case you didn’t know, us Mormons don’t drink), we had a blast. We also didn’t karaoke (you can’t karaoke sober. It’s a law.). But dude, fun time.

Rumor had it they would be giving away a Wii and an iPod at some point during the party, and so we vowed to stick it out until the bitter end. I WANTED THE WII.

I didn’t win the Wii.

Or the iPod.

As soon as the drawings were over, we grabbed out coats and headed out. Hey, it was 10:00 and we had assured Babboo’s sitter that we’d be home by 9:00.

The next day at The King’s work (amidst coworkers who were still drunk and still wearing last night’s party clothes) he found out that $100 gift cards were handed out to everyone THE MINUTE WE LEFT!

Gift cards to Gap and Old Navy and other places I frequent.

As soon as The King told me this I pretended I hadn’t heard him. I did not want to think about what we had missed out on.

And then, low and behold, The King came home last Thursday with two belated $50 Old Navy gift cards from his work.

All Hail The King’s Employer.

Do I even have to tell you that I headed to Old Navy asap on Friday? And just in time to hit their “50% off clearance items” sale.

I came home with 6 long sleeved shirts for Babboo for next winter, one pair of pants to fit him now, another pair of pants for next winter, a pair of shoes, and 3 shirts for me.

All of this (12 items!), and I didn’t even use up one of the $50 cards. If you do the math, and I did, the average cost of each item was approximately $3.50. And they are all cute. Some even super cute (like the top I’m wearing to work today).

Also found on Thursday at Ross, three Marc Ecko shirts for The King (he loves, loves Marc Ecko brand). The best one retails at $58.00, but was purchased for $9.99. The other two I got for $2.99 EACH. (Seriously people, SCORE!) The King was very happy with my latest score.

Factor in the fact that the Old Navy items were technically FREE, thanks to The King’s place of employment, and you have some serious bargains at The King household last week.

Do I even have to tell you that I plan on headed back to Old Navy at some point today? Dude, I must buy more. Now if I could just find similar bargains on things like daycare and mortgages and even on cars.

Hey, I’m just doing my part to stimulate the economy.

Don’t forget to check out my latest New Thing, where I try out some of that new fangled dry shampoo in am attempt to be as pretty as Whoorl.

I LOVE the 50% off clearance sales. I wish they would happen again soon.

I love Old Navy with a fiery passion that refuses to be quenched. I love their twee little baby clothes. I love their comfy sweatpants that feel like a hug for your legs. I love their long pants that are actually long enough. I love their shirts that fit right every time. Congrats on your score, and I’m so glad the people at casino night weren’t wearing diapers.

Ooooh! Love the bargain posts! I bought some silk/cashmere scarves over the weekend in Chinatown (San Fran) and thought of you. 5 for $25 dollars, marked down from $50 each. They are gorgeous! I initially purchased a couple as gifts…but now I’m unsure if I actually want to give them. I’m selfish I guess. And they are beautiful!

I love your post about bargain shopping! The deals are great at Old Navy right now. Since I work there part-time I have a hard time shopping for clothes any where else. I feel like I work for clothes since I buy something there almost every time I work. I took at vantage of my discount this weekend and got 20% off the advertised 50% off clearance items. If I lived closer to you, Isabel, I would totally share my awesome discount. I got a ton of $3 shirts before Christmas because of the great sales and my discount.

Now that’s a cool emperor The King works for.

It is ridiculous (in a good way) what good bargains you get! I will be sending you sizes for the Pretend Husband and I, and you are now responsible for all our clothes shopping, OK?

Sounds like you had a blast! And I concur, sober karaoke is against the law.
