In which you are forced to look at pictures from Disneyland
Posted by Isabel on March 9th, 2009. Filed under: Me, My Sweet Babboo, Random, The King, Vacations.Hey, remember how we spent some time at Disneyland last weekend?
(Yep, totally moving on and acting like this never happened. Healthy? Probably not. But that’s what we’re choosing to do right now. Please play along.)
So yeah, back to our trip to Disneyland…..
The park opens at 8:00 but we didn’t get there until 8:30. I admit that I was a little irritated with the boys for not wanting to be there when it opened. They were just too busy having fun in our hotel room to want to drive over to the park.

Alas, we headed to the park and we rode our first ride. Some sort of rocket ship ride that went around and around. I sat in the rocket ship in front of the boys so I could attempt to take pictures to document this historical event.

(You can’t really see it, but Babboo is totally sitting in the rocket with The King. Can you see the little top of his head?)
And then we rode another ride. A ride which involved Buzz Lightyear and “shooting zings”. (I hate guns and refuse to let my kid play with them. So when there is a gun around, we just refer to it as a “shooting zing” and hope that he doesn’t grow up wanting a gun.)

Babboo really doesn’t know any of the Disney characters (besides ones that starred in any movie beginning with “High Schoool….” and ending with “…Musical”). He is sort of familiar with Toy Story.
After Buzz Lightyear and the “shooting zings” we stood in line to ride the “Nemo” submarine ride. To pass the 45 minute wait time, we took pictures of ourselves.

The King did not want to participate, but he’s sweet and played along.
After that, we walked over to Cinderella’s castle. (It isn’t as impressive once you’ve been to the REAL castle in Germany! Which we have, thank you very much.)

Next The King and I fought over who would have to take Babboo on the carousal. Neither one of us really wanted to. Man, no ride is worse then going around and around. And then throwing up. Especially while knocked up!

I took him on the ride. I did not throw up. Babboo loved the ride. He named our horse “Holly”.
By this time the weather got really good. Really, really good. So good, in fact, that The King went and bought us some sunscreen and I took off my shirt and only wore my “under shirt“. (I’m not sure why I don’t live in SoCal. I love the sun so very much.)
The King had made us reservations for us to eat at the Blue Bayou restaurant (it’s the one you see when you ride the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride). It was fun to eat in the dark. (We all had fun there, although I admit the food wasn’t that great.) After lunch, we stood in line (Babboo fell asleep in my arms) and then rode the Pirates ride. Babboo woke up right as the ride started and he loved every minute of it. You know, after he actually woke up.) I was surprised that little kids were allowed on this ride. There were people holding tiny babies!
After this we decided to check out if The Golden Horseshoe was still there. You see, The King’s dad used to work there when The King was little.

Aw yes, it’s still there! We didn’t stick around to see their show. In fact, I’m not sure they do shows here anymore.
I needed a break and some water. So The King took Babboo on “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride”. Some ghosts appeared at the end of the ride The King pointed them out and referred to them as “monsters”. And that is where things turned ugly. Babboo decided he DID NOT LIKE “Wild Ride” because it was “scary”. He didn’t stop talking about that for the rest of the day. We kept trying to get his mind off of darn Mr. Toad.
He still will tell you how he didn’t like the Wild Ride if you mention anything about
Disneyland.
I stood in line with Babboo for “Dumbo”, only to let The King and Babboo ride it together while I got more water, and took pictures.

We headed over to Mickey’s Toon Town where Baboo and I tested our strength.

And then, out of the blue, Goofy arrived right next to us. We ran over to get a picture of us with him. I was worried that he would freak Babboo out. (He sort of has a history of costumed people scaring him.) But Babboo loved Goofy and even gave him “five”. (I was busy looking at him to make sure he wasn’t screaming. So yeah, I messed up what could have been our Christmas postcard picture for 2009. Way to go, Isabel!)

We hung around Toon Town for a while and took more pictures.

The boys both got really brave and decided they wanted to go on a “real roller coaster”. Apparently Babboo was tall enough for one of them. So they waited in line, while I walked around (and shopped). I was pretty nervous about Babboo going on such a big ride, but The King was convinced it would be just fine.
I stood next to the ride, when it was their turn, and took video of them on the ride. I thought I heard Babboo screaming…but The King said he wasn’t afraid at all. Babboo loved it. He turned to The King as soon as the ride was over and said “that was exciting!”
We saw Pluto walk by, but Babboo had no interest in getting his photo taken with him. (Pluto is a little creepy looking. Especially the fact that he isn’t on all fours.)

We headed over to ride “It’s a Small World”, which had just reopened after extension renovation. Babboo played, while we waiting in line. (That’s him, running around.)

In all my years of attending Disneyland, I had never ridden this ride. I’m not sure why, I just was never interested. But dude, I LOVED IT.
It was, by far, my very favorite ride on this trip.
We walked over to the Mad Hatter to get Babboo his first pair of Mickey ears, with his name on it. (This is something I always wanted…but was probably too old to get by the time I first went to Disneyland.)
Both The King and Babboo got Mickey ears. The King requested that his say “Dad” on them. Pretty precious, if you ask me.

(Yes, I took pictures of their ears being made. I was that excited about it.)
About this time I got a huge headache and Babboo totally hit the wall. I headed to the First Aid station (a full on emergency room inside the park) to get some Tylenol. (Thank you, Walt Disney for your free meds). We got a silhouette done of Babboo, ate dinner at the Carnation Cafe, took some more cute pictures…

…and decided to head back to our hotel. Sure it was only 8:00 at night, but we had one tired boy.
We took one last picture, walked to our car and headed home.

Babboo was asleep in about 2 minutes.
We got back to our hotel room and I tried to put Babboo’s pajamas on. I got as far as his bottoms and just gave up and let the kid sleep. He deserved it!

He woke up in the middle of the night asking me about the Buzz Lightyear “show”. I’m pretty sure he was talking about a dream he was having about Buzz Lightyear.
The first thing Babboo said the next morning was that he wanted to ride the train at Disneyland. I hated telling him that he and I were boarding a plane for Seattle in a few short hours.
How I wish we could have stayed in SoCal for a little longer.
It was a good trip for our family.

I enjoyed my first In-N-Out burger while in California. It’s my latest New Thing.

So this is the thing: I have a hard time paying $90 per day to play at Disneyland. I’ve heard it’s the going rate, and around my house, that doesn’t go very well. Not knowing what you paid for your admission, and assuming you had to pay full price: is it worth it?? I know, the ears, the memories, blah blah (can you tell I went off disneyland years ago?), still. We are going in October (I have a contract written in blood) (not really but I should) and so I wonder.
And is one day enough? Again, cheap. And yes, Pluto is creepy. Why can’t he talk when Goofy can??

I love “It’s a Small World” and I would even say that it’s THE BEST ride at Disneyland!

Yay Disneyland! I actually love Small World…although I can’t listen to the song and not be on the ride, because that? It creeps me out.
I’m so glad ya’ll had a good time!

Magical Kingdom!!! Free drugs!!! Mad Hatter!!! YAY!
And yes, they do have shows at the Golden Horseshoe still. But no dancing girls. So really, is it worth it? (Well, yeah, the band was pretty great. Still worth it. Next time.)
