In which I host two baby showers in one week
Posted by Isabel on April 22nd, 2009. Filed under: Addictions, I Rock. Here’s the thing: sometimes I bite off more then I can chew.
Case in point; I AM HOSTING TWO BABY SHOWERS IN THE NEXT TEN DAYS. One this Friday. Another one next Friday.
Yes, you read that right. The lady who just lost a baby at 16 weeks is hosting TWO BABY SHOWERS.
You may ask yourself, why do I do this?
Because I’m an idiot.
Actually it’s because I’m a nice person. And I have two very pregnant friends who I care about. And they deserve a baby shower. So, I stepped up to the plate and offered to host them.
(Thankfully some other friends offered to help me host the two baby shower or I might have died.)
In an effort to spice things up a bit the two showers have completely different themes. This Friday’s shower is a recycled baby shower. The new mom is pretty Green and wanted people to give her hand-me-downs. She also wanted her shower to be the outlet for other moms to swap hand-me-downs. She’s also super into owls.
I made super cute (rhyming) invites with cute little pink shrinky dink owls on them. The rhyme explained all about the recycled aspect of the shower and the swap.
(I love rhyming dictionary.)
But since this mom is having a baby girl and I only have boy hand-me-downs, she’s getting NEW iron-on onesies. (Onesies courtesy of Michelle. THANKS FOR SHARING Michelle! I heart YOU!)

The new parents are super into music and politics. Hence the different band onesies and the Obama onesie. And again, the mom loves owls, so I threw in a cute little own onesie with a bow on it and everything.
The mom is also super into “Twilight”.

(You’ll note that Edward is wearing a “Team Edward” shirt on this onesies. Dude, I love photoshop.)
While Edwards “Team Edward” shirt is pretty cute….the best part of this particular onesies is what’s on the bum side.

So while having to plan and host TWO BABY SHOWERS (yes, all caps must be used) is stressful, making cute onesies (almost) makes up for the stress.
(Just wait until I post pictures of the onesies I’m making for next week’s shower!)
So tell me, have I sufficiently paid my dues in the baby shower department for the year? (I vote that I have.)

GREAT JOB! Way easier than cake, huh?
I never thought to make my OWN onesies. I have a niece arriving in the next month so it sounds like I have a project to do!

You are such a great friend, or completely insane depending on how you want to look at it.
I think she will love the shower and the onesies, I know I would!

Dues for the year? I would say dues for the LIFETIME! Seriously, this is above and beyone. What a good friend you are.
And, I must say, as of now I am on Team Edward. Movie Jacob isn’t even close to hott. Maybe by New Moon he will be??

Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that you’re probably the best friend in the history of baby showers. Seriously.
Annnnnd, I have a question. Maybe I’m using the wrong transfer paper or something, but every time I make an iron-on for Al, the transfer ends up getting all cracked and icky after the first wash. What am I doing wrong? I really loved his Higglytown Hero T-shirt that I made for him until it got all ragged and crackly looking. HALP!
Your friends are really fortunate to have you. I love the green shower idea…hand-me-downs rock.

I want to pick your brain on the iron on’s too – I want to make t-shirts for my daughters Dr. Suess themed birthday party coming up.
You are pretty crazy for hosting these showers, but you’re also a good friend. Hope you have some fun!

I think you’ve paid your dues for the DECADE. Also, the hand-me-down shower idea is awesome.

I don’t know if I ever told you, but I stole your onesie idea from that time you posted the tutorial and have been using it ever since. I’ve made some hilarious ones and they have been a big hit with my friends and family. In fact, my nephew, who received a set of custom-made onesies at his birth, will be graduating to a custom T-shirt when I see him in a few weeks. Thanks for the awesome gift idea!

Those are ridiculously cute. I may have to steal that idea someday.

Yes, you’ve paid your dues in the baby shower department.

not only have you paid your dues, but you are a sweet friend, how thoughtful, and I’m coveting those Edward onsies.

I want to have a kid just so you can make me Edward onsies. (Not really. That won’t be happening for a LONG time).
Those are super freakin’ cute!!!
You’re such a thoughtful friend! Two showers in a week. You rock! You’ve definitely paid your dues.

You’re a wonderful friend, and a brave woman. I love the onesies.
And hey, what are you serving at said showers? I am hosting one in a couple of weeks and haven’t come up with a (finger food) menu yet.

Ack, baby showers. Everyone deserves a good one. But we’re definitely in the “Baby Shower” phase of life. At least it’s cheaper than the “Friends Daughter’s Wedding” phase of life. Onesies are helluva lot cheaper than china.

I forgot to add, you are Amazing. So kind & generous. And I am lucky to be friends with you. Now I must stop Gretchen playing with small coins.

Oh my gosh, the Twilight onesie is hilarious! You have definitely paid your baby showers dues, and I would posit that throwing two baby showers after what you’ve been through this year qualifies you for sainthood.

Um, heck yeah, woman, you have done more than enough. It never ceases to amaze me how generous you are with your talents and time.
