In which Canada offers Caffeine Liberation

Posted by Isabel on April 27th, 2009. Filed under: Addictions, Vacations.

This last weekend was spent up in the Great White North. (Also known as Canada.)

We love Canada and try to go there as often as possible!

While I l-o-v-e Canada, I don’t love The Swine Flu. And, according to an e-mail sent from my company’s HR depatment this morning:

As of today, there are no reported cases in the state of Washington, however there are two confirmed cases in British Columbia.  Standard precautions apply for swing flue as for all other highly communicable diseases spread by coughing and sneezing.  If you are experiencing symptoms including fever, fatigue, coughing, vomiting or diarrhea, you must stay home and limit contact with others.

Mother Trucker. Now I’m obsessively trying to remember if anyone sneezed on me this last weekend while in British Columbia, Canada. And if anyone who might have sneezed on me might have had diarrhea.

While I can’t remember being sneezed on while in Canada. And I don’t know if anyone had diarrhea, I do know that I LOVE the new “grain beverage with chicory” that I purchased in Canada.

caf-lib
It’s called Caf-Lib and I think the name has something to do with caffeine liberation. (I don’t know what chicory is and I’m not going to google it.)

I’m am currently enjoying a hot cup of Caf-Lib and feeing very liberated from the evils of caffeine.

Yummy.

(Yes, let’s focus on becoming liberated and not on The Swine Flu.)

Did you hear that “New Moon” is being filmed in Vancouver? Since I knew we were heading up there I promptly asked Christar to offer any inside advice on where to spot anything “Twilight” related. Christar was nice enough to text me with some inside scoop. Basically that they were filming OUTSIDE OF THE CITY OF VANCOUVER.

Yeah, that doesn’t help me.

So, we just enjoyed the sun and the fun of Vancouver by riding in the water taxi…

..and hanging out at the super awesome Granville Island

…and paying a street vendor to make Babboo a super cool “pirate sword”.

So yeah, no Edward/Jacob sightings. Hopefully no Swine Flu.

But dude, CAFFEINE LIBERATION!

If you haven’t guessed, Chicory is a plant. Found at times growing wild in the South. Thus it’s popularity as a stand in for coffee during the Civil War when supplies were scarce. (thus ends my knowledge on the subject)

    Also, love the pirate sword!

ah, you’re safe. Your HR department was clearly not talking about the swine flu. They mentioned the swing flue, which as we all know, is completely different, benign and may cause serious side effects like: extreme happiness, ice cream, tulips and also Hawaii.

Ha! Our company’s official reaction to Swine Flu? “I hope we don’t have to skip bacon tomorrow!” Sorry you missed out on Twilight sightings but so glad your son got a cool pirate sword! Pirates are right up there with vampires in terms of coolness.

Who is this Anna character? She is hilarious. I’m hoping for the Swing Flu later today. Till then, I’ll be playing Barbies with Lil’ May (crap), quarantined with The Croupe, and trying to look busy.

Dude, I’m sorry you didn’t have better luck than I did. Why the hell can’t the Twilight cast come around when we’re there?! It’s not that much to ask for. I really miss Vancouver. I want to go back.

I can’t believe the Swine Flu has made it to Canada! Scary how close it is. It better stay away from me… an ROB!!!

Grain beverages are yummy! You may want to try it with milk (I like soy) and honey as well. I love coffee, but the grain drink you have (or another kind, like Inka), is a nice before bed drink. (Thanks for reminding me!)

Oh – in case you check this post for comments (3 months later), PCC has lots of non-caffeine coffee-like things (versus decaf). Although, sometime when you feel like doing a theoretical post, I’d like to understand how other “hot drinks” are not equally discouraged in the Word of Wisdom – as far as I can tell cocoa is a hot drink and it has caffeine (albiet a much smaller amount).
