In which I blog on my couch from my new laptop, for the first time EVER

When The King lost his job, he also lost his work laptop. I guess your employer gets to keep stuff like that. Since we had no laptop to call our own, we had to buy one. In this day and age you sort of need access to the interweb to find a job. Heck, you pretty much need access to the interweb to do pretty much anything.

Funny thing is, laptops don’t come cheap. Especially when you need to buy a Mac because you work in the art industry. Gulp. Shelling out a crap-load of money, when you’ve recently lost your job, shouldn’t be at the top of the list of things to do. But we had to do it.

We decided, while on vacation in Utah, to get online and buy a new iBook macbook*. We figured we’d pay for two day shipping and have it come to m parents house. That way my dad, the Mac wiz, could help get us all set up. Of course we had to do all of this without telling my parents The King had just been laid off. (Nobody wants to hear bad news like that during vacation. We waited to tell them until later.) I’m pretty sure my parents thought we were being foolish with our money and not thinking through this purchase.

Truth is, we just needed a computer. And fast.

Thankfully our new iBook macbook arrived in Utah in time for my dad to load it all up with his goodies and for The King to switch over his personal files from his work laptop before he had to turn it over to his previous employer. So yeah, we are now the proud owners of our very own laptop.

It’s been years and years since I’ve been able to say that. We’ve totally been relying on our work to keep us in laptops. But not anymore, suckas!

I’m currently sitting on my couch, with my new iBook macbook on my lap, watching TV with the lights off, BLOGGING.

Dude, this may be the first time this has ever happened in the three years that I’ve been blogging.

Clearly I’m excited about this.

And you should be too.

(Yes, this is my first picture using the awesome photo booth option. Yes, it’s ten o’clock at night. Yes, this is me sans make-up. Yes, I love that I can totally do this IN MY PAJAMAS!)

Here’s hoping this new iBook macbook will enable The King to FIND A NEW JOB to pay for our new iBook macbook.

*Thanks to Rhi for letting me know that in order to be “cool”, I must refer to it as a “macbook”.  Clearly I use a lame non-Apple laptop at work.  Clearly I’m not cool.

Psst! You have to start calling it a MacBook or all the cool kids are going to start making fun of you! Also, you must name it. My MacBook? Pink Martini, because it has a pink case, and because well, PINK MARTINI is awesome.

It’s a good thing my work laptop isn’t my sole computer, because the IT folks at work block ALL the good sites on all the organization’s laptops–even when browsing from outside networks. It’s that whole “the work computer is for work only and anything else is misuse of organization resources” thing. So yeah, no FB, no Twitter, and even some blogs are blocked (Pioneer Woman is blocked on my work ‘puter–go figure!).

Here’s to lots of fun on the new machine and to a quick and fruitful job search for the King!

I almost asked if you were using the outdated iBook for a minute, but thanks to the correction I can rest assure you’re cool (like me!) and have a MacBook. :)

Dude, I remember when I got my Mac… I was SO excited, and to tell you the truth… I still am. I love it! I love photobooth and video chatting. And iMovie. And that I can set my desktop to switch wallpapers every minute, automatically, through all my Twilight wallpapers.

    Mac’s are just AMAZING!!!

Also, I just posted the pic of (not) you at the Old 97s concert. Again, you’re WAY cuter. ;)

Do Macs come with light-up dragons on their towers and cool green fans? Didn’t think so! Oh wait, they don’t even HAVE towers??? Crap. My pimped out computer is so not cool.
