I got an e-mail this morning from my sister that simply said; “I’m sorry.”

I wrote her back to ask her what she was sorry for.

“That its passed your due date and you’re still pregnant.”

Had to e-mail her back and give her the whole “it’s an ESTIMATED due date, so it’s not like I was expecting to go into labor the second it was my due date.”

ESTIMATED!

And, let’s be honest, as soon as I’m no longer pregnant it will mean I HAVE A BABY TO TAKE CARE OF 24 HOURS A DAY. Being pregnant doesn’t sound so bad when you compare it to that.

I don’t think I’ve made it to the totally uncomfortable part of pregnancy. I mean as long as I can still come to work everyday and sit in my cozy chair in my cubicle, surrounded by blowing AC, and listening to my iPod, then I’m just fine. It’s far more comfortable then being at home frantically cleaning and scrubbing and washing and folding WITHOUT MAKING ANY ACTUAL PROGRESS! Plus, at work, I get paid to show up. So yeah, might as well be making money.

I feel like in much better spirits then I should be. I mean don’t all overdue women have the right to be ornery? The only thing that is making me ornery is EVERYBODY at work stopping by my cubicle or calling me to see if I”m here today.

I’M HERE.

I told them all along that I’d be working up until the day I birth a child. So I’m not sure why they’re surprised to see me everyday.

I was curious as to how I was feeling around this same time when I was pregnant with Babboo, so I ventured back into the archives of this site and found this post from April 13th, which was two days past my due date. I was excited to see that it was full of awesome pictures from my youth. And honestly, I don’t sound too ornery in the post. So maybe I wasn’t too uncomfortable.

(I went on to give birth 8 days after my due date, and only after being induced.)

(Wow, there are 90 comments on that post. That is a total record for me.)

(I had forgotten about that post and reading it again made me so happy. Seeing this picture of my five year old confirmed that Babboo is my child.)

I also had to go back and read my first post birth post, which included this MOST ADORABLE picture of My Sweet Babboo.

Oh my gosh, it seriously is intense to think that we’ll be having another one of these little guys shortly (or in 8 days, it’s hard to tell).

As of last Friday I was dilated to a 3.5, up from a 1 the week before. I have another appointment today. And because of his new job which isn’t located anywhere near me in downtown Seattle, it will be the first appointment The King’s been able to go to with me (although he insists it’s the second one).

I hope it’s the last appointment.

But you can never be certain.

And, because I’m sure someone out there cares (maybe Carrisa?) here is the latest belly shot. It was taken last Tuesday right before I headed out the door to attend the annual Garden Party that the ladies from church put on. I decided to wear my sassy red wedges in an attempt to make myself feel less fat by having the focus be my red shoes.

(I’m not sure how well that logic worked.)

———————————————-

And because I forgot to share this before, here are a couple links you might be interested in. (Again, Carrisa might be the only one interested.)

Remember when I used to write a column about being a working mom over at SeattleMomBlogs? I recently was given tickets to see a local play with The King and Babboo. We went, had a blast, and then I blogged all about it. (Complete with another picture of my big belly…and my cute kid!)

I was recently interviewed for a local site, the Queen Anne blog. The article turned out better then I was expecting. I was a little nervous during the interview and was afraid I’d come off sounding like a huge City Snob.

I’m down to weekly doctor’s appointment. Which can only mean one thing: internal exams. (Are they called “internal”? Probably not. But you know what I’m talking about.)

Note to every person (in real life) that has asked: “My due date is the 18th. But NO, I don’t think I’ll be having this baby any time soon, so quit bugging me about it.”

Which is followed up by “my first baby was 8 days OVER, so yeah, not anytime soon.”

Seriously, I’M SICK OF TALKING ABOUT IT!

Also, note to my male coworker that wanted to discuss my birthing plan: “I am not going to discuss this with you. No matter how many times you ask or whatever your reasons.”

My mom finally called me to discuss her CROSSING THE LINE. (It took her over a week to call me.) We talked. She apologized. I stood my ground. She’s still coming out.

Babboo started his second round of swimming lessons. This time without a parent in the pool with him. He doesn’t even sort of know how to swim. During the first lesson I would have swooped in and rescued him from the pool if The King hadn’t been there to stop me. It’s hard to watch my son have to learn things on his own.

I realize more and more every single day how much I rely on The King. I could never do any of this alone. Single mom’s have my utmost respect.

We still don’t have a name picked out.

After months of The King asking me to grow out my bangs I’ve decided to do it. Whoorl is going to have to revoke my membership in the Blunt Brigade. I hate the growing out process. It’s isn’t pretty.

I’m patiently waiting the arrival of my latest SDBBE book from the lovely Amy. I hope it’s a good one. (No pressure Amy!)

May, my BFF in Reno, gave me an iTunes gift card for my birthday. It still has the entire balance on it. I NEED MUSIC SUGGESTIONS. (Awesome music suggestions only, please.)

The teenage girls (and other adult leaders) I work with at church thew me a surprise baby party last week. It was one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for me. They made me the best ABC book ever. It included pictures of them with things that represented each letter in the alphabet. (Yes, “R” was a picture of one of the girls holding a picture of Rhett Miller.)

The King and I watched a birthing video we checked out from the library. It was a little too intense and probably wasn’t the best idea.

I keep thinking, “what in the crap have I gotten myself into?!”

There’s no turning back now.

We have two lists on our kitchen counter. The first list’s heading says, “The Summer of Fun” and the second list’s heading says, “Things to do before the baby is born”. The lists are of equal importance. We’ve been crossing things off both lists like crazy these last few weeks.

The main thing that we’d like to get done before I pop out this kid is to finish our back deck. We’ve spent the last few summers trying to get our yard in order so that we can, at some point, actually enjoy it. We figure this might be our last summer for a while to work on it hard core. We pretty much finished up the front yard earlier this summer and have been focused on our back yard. And by “back yard”, I totally mean “the dirt hill behind our house that will never be considered a yard!”

After much thought we decided the best (and possibly only) way to utilize the mound of dirt behind our house would be to turn it into one huge deck with multiple levels. Yep, our back yard won’t have a single blade of grass. This is actually a great plan because we’ll be able to throw send the boys out on the deck to play and we won’t have to worry about them. Especially once the fence in finished.

If you’re new to my life blog then you might not know that The King is the epitome of a hard worker. He lives for work. He thrives on work. He, pretty much, just basically enjoys hard labor.

(Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one confused at how he and I wound up together.)

What I’m saying is that The King has planned to do all of this work himself. You know, while working a full time job, being a husband and father and donating his time to our church. This whole deck business is huge and The King can’t physically do all of it in the amount of time we have left.

Enter me. His pregnant wife. (And maybe some others.)

The plan for the deck is to have it be three levels. The first level starting at our back door and the subsequent levels going up to the back alley. The first level of deck was completed last summer, as well as the framing for the second level. Each level is to be divided by a gabion wall. (Have you ever seen a gabion? They are pretty cool and you should check them out.) Anyway, I think the average person hires someone to come in and put together the wire gabion baskets and then hires someone else to come in with a backhoe and fill each basket with rocks.

We’re not “average”.

And so The King and I (and a few friends, who we’ve happily paid) have spent the last few months taking rocks from a pile of rocks we bought and had delivered and dumping them into the gabions.

By just looking at the gabions you might not think they have that many rocks in them. If you think that…YOU WOULD BE WRONG.

There are a lot of darn rocks. Lots and lots.

Take my word for it.

At this point in the project we were all “we should just look into paying someone to finish the second level.” We hemmed and hawed and finally decided to fork over the cash to pay someone else to do something that we could do, but just didn’t have the time to do.

The second level was finished in two days. It would have taken The King a few weeks of evening and Saturday work to get it done.

It might have been the best money we’ve ever spent. It looks beautiful!

Level three will be a flat area filled with gravel for the time being. Next summer The King will build a shed and a sauna with a shower area. (I know you want to come and stay at my house, right?!) The third level will have to wait until next summer. Sad, but true.

Another thing of our list of “Things to do before the baby is born” is for me to sand down all of our teak deck furniture (that we bought a few years ago AT A SUPER DISCOUNT) and have The King restain it (I probably shouldn’t be messing with stain and paint at this point in my life).

It isn’t the fastest task, but it’s going good. So far I’ve sanded two chairs and one chaise lounge chair (and half of the other).

Our new table umbrella was delivered last week (thanks Overstock.com) and we’ve managed to eat dinner outside EVERY SINGLE NIGHT since its arrival.

The fence should be going up soon. SOON! The pile of unused wood will be sold online soon. SOON! And the deck will be finished. FINISHED!

Then we’ll be able to cross it off the list of “Things to do before the baby is born”.

Speaking of the list, I crossed something else off the list on Sunday evening:

“finish boys room”

Yep, the wall art has been updated (with super cute pictures of old pirate ships) and….

…new curtains have been sewed by ME, WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SEW.

(The “before” pic of the fabric and the existing sheer curtain that will go behind the new curtains.)

And the “after” of the curtains, all sewn and hung up on the rod.

What was The King doing while I was cutting fabric and cursing my sewing machine?

He was working on crossing something off the “Summer of Fun” list:

“Climb to the VERY TIP OF MT. RAINIER“

(He’s been training to do this for a while.)

Thankfully he (and the guys he climbed with) was safe.

And thankfully I didn’t go into labor while he was gone, thus cursing me to naming my child something like “Rainier” or “Muir” in honor of giving birth while my husband was on the mountain.

Next up; crossing even more things off the “Summer of Fun” list!
